I was there at the driver insistence to show us this beautiful place. I remember there was traffic and we were going back to Quito from Otavalo. The driver took a detour and took us there he said it was better than sitting on traffic. I appreciate his kindness, he was right. It was a magic place. For some reason I tear 😢 as I see this video. Thanks for bringing me memories and happy anniversary. 🤗❤

When you first meet someone in a business or professional context and find them attractive, then it can be a good idea to proceed with caution, because if someone is invited out on a one-to-one basis, but does not accept, then it makes things more awkward for the rejected suitor when doing business in the future. On the other hand, one does not want to appear to be uninterested either, so it is hard to strike a balance, and defining what is a "date" is largely a matter of semantics. Isn't dating a kind of 1950's thing where father is waiting up late at night for his daughter to be brought home after a necking session in a car, or a polite paraphrase meaning having a sexual relationship, but not living together? Anyway, all irrelevant, because when a woman shows up alone at a bar at a stated time for the purpose of meeting up with a man and drinking alcohol together, then that is a date by all definitions.

JP dude! My kids and I have been watching you guys for a long time. Amelia says it was a date, then it was a date. She's such a beautiful lady and you are a great guy. Blessings to you both. When I was a kid, there was *a* guy at Cuicocha with one rowboat (it might have had a motor), and you could spend the night on an island with very little hassle. There was a building with 2 rooms, but it was pretty rustic. Several of the Peace Corps volunteers in the early 70's did a lot of fishing - mostly at lakes you had to hike into and generally above the tree line. Absolutely amazing experience, profoundly grateful for it, and deeply appreciative of the many people we got to meet.

Great video! Thanks for sharing! We lived in Cotacachi for almost 3 years and loved it. Ecuador is almost the exact same size as Colorado. Even though I have hiked a lot in Colorado, I never did any 14ers. My first 14ers were in Ecuador. We (my wife and I) hiked the loop around Cuicocha in just under 4 hours and my boys ran the entire loop in 1.5 hours. It is a beautiful hike and well worth it if you are acclimated to the altitude and familiar with hiking long trails. I am surprised you were attacked by mosquitos because we rarely experienced them, if any, when we were up there. It may be because of all the rain they have been receiving lately. And yes, hiking when there is cloud cover is ideal because the sun is very intense up there. I'm glad you guys hiked up past the bench though... I was afraid you weren't going to explore up the ridge. Your next adventure should be the 3 day Quilatoa "loop" from Sigchos to the Quilatoa Crater Lake. There are hostels to stay in each night. Unfortunately, the best hostel is on the first night instead of the last (unless you hike it backwards). The name is the LluLlu Llama Mountain Lodge and is comparable to a 5 star rustic resort in the states. We went in Feb. 2021 when NO ONE was up there because of Covid. They were so excited to see people and get a little business. Safe travels!

Great Video Amelia and JP! Enjoyed it and makes me wanna go take the hike around Cuy Chocha again :)... More info for those who like climbing and hiking: Hiking to the summit of imbabura is definitely not the easist nor safest thing to do without gear, there's 2 dangerous parts. The first is about 100-200 feet from the summit, you have to climb pretty much straight up and if you fall theres nothing to stop you for the next 200-400 feet. The second is after that point, the trail is about 2-3 foot wide and a 500+ foot straight drop on both sides. But before the first point, it is a safe and beautiful hike, and from what I was told there's around 50 plant species that only exist in the cerro (mountian) of Imbabura Safer and easier hikes would be climbing Fuya Fuya (The first summit) in Mojanda (Mojanda is a 30 min taxi/truck ride from Otavalo) and Cuy Cocha.... Hope this info helps anyone who likes to go hiking/climbing

Hi guys. Bonnie here. That was one of our favorite hikes of all in Ecuador!! Probably hiking in Las Cajas surpassed it. But not by much. I still remember clearly how it felt to stand at the edge of that crater and look all the way down. And I’d call your date a Date, but mainly its whatever you call it! I think its more fun that it wasn’t a real date because you left it open to succeed or fail, and then many more years of dates followed.

Beautifully done in a beautiful setting. Appreciate the brief flora shots as well as each of you approaching the camera during the hike. A little excitement at fighting the mosquitoes would have been fun. Scampering down the mountainside would have added excitement. Calling the taxi and bargaining the price might have been interesting to watch. The ending chat about the official first date was heartwarming. Well done.

Cuicicha is amazing. I remember spending a night, in a sleeping bag, on the smaller island in March 1974. It was a bit cold, to say the least. But there was no hotel, restaurant, or any kind of what we call development on or around the crater lake at that time. If you go out in a boat just beside the islands you can see bubbles coming up from the depths of the lake, so you know it's a true volcano -and perhaps even on the verge of becoming active!
