100% - organized religion is/can be so destructive. That is the message Nightwish is relaying hear.
@galadballcrusher81824 күн бұрын
True, i am an agnostic that leans to atheism. Agnostic just cause since i got no proof of existence or non existence of a divine being i reserve the atheism spot instead of atheism. But in my opinion religion should not exist as organised institution at all in the first place. It should be like a personal philosophical way of perceiving the world but not hold worldly power . And initially one could say it was so in palaeolithic age when shaman of a tribe guided each member to their spirituality. Was more like counselling. But after neolithic age hit and agricultural revolution happened, people had less time to devote to ponder and search the unseen as they needed more time to work fields but that was also the emergence of priest class who was praying for the rest kept the shrine and later temple fire lit, and as this prohibited him from having time to work the fields was fed by the rest. And here we are now millenia later after their guild won in power in middle ages to raise and drop kings and governments, and still holds power mainly through conditioning and innate human superstition .

Well, that's debatable. In my main comment I quote Tuomas: "To be precise, I consider myself an agnostic atheist. I don't believe in God, so that makes me an atheist How do I know that God does not exist? I don't, but neither does anybody else. That's why I am also an agnostic."

One on my top 5 favorite songs. I also at first had a problem when i first heard this song years ago but after learning the lyric`s its not about religion being bad but being perverted to scare people and mostly children. You must agree that certain all religions have a bad side. Troy plays all kinds of guitars also, And Kai Hahto is the drummer since 2015.

That's what I was thinking listening to the song that it's about the bad things people have done in the name of religion. People have done horrific things since the beginning of time. Evil loves to use the name of good things to tarnish it. I'm hoping I'll remember Kai's name after this video lol I have to remember so many names of band members on this channel and some names take longer than others to stick for me. Christmas is here soon and so is Raskasta Joulua tour (literally Heavy Christmas). It's an annual hugely popular christmas song tour where Finnish Metal singers perform the popular Christmas songs with a metal twist. Every year they manage to lure some foreign singers there too, like Floor, Elize Ryd from Amaranthe, Geoff Tate from Queensryche, Dee Snider from Twisted Sister, just to name a few that have taken part. Marko has been involved with the project from the start, since 2004. You really should check them out, for example Ave Maria, performed by Floor and Marko.

First : I LOVE THIS SONG !!!!! Troy is playing an Electric Bouzouki ( A musical instrument popular in Greece. It is a member of the long-necked lute family, with a round body with a flat top and a long neck with a fretted fingerboard.). This song is against organized religions based on tribal religious texts, especially The Bible, it's not against personal faith in some Deity. However, one should realize that all those religious texts are & have been interpreted and used to justify unimaginable cruelties, persecution, discrimination etc., the worst being the idea that man is separate from nature & by some divine right above all other lifeforms, which explains the current almost catastrophic state of our planet. lyrics are spot on - so many fractures in our world have a root in the fantasy that each of the religions/sects/whatever are THE ONE way. This song speaks, with anger, against the fact that we humans are destroying ourselves and this world based on a power structure that needs to be made obsolete - we ALL deserve better. I LOVE this Song . Especially Floor's Freddie Mercury pose at the end . Speaking of Freddie ,....Floor's first band After Forever did a Cover of Queen's song "Who Wants To Live Forever " : Who Wants To Live Forever kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4GvpZqrZ9WDn8U NWSU/FloorFan/Epican/Ayreonaut/TWA/PauFan🤘😎🤘.

One of the very best, growing on me all the time. This song, being anti-organised religion, caused a lot of controversy. Here are some band comments about that: MARCO: What comes to the new lyrics, "Weak Fantasy" was the only one that actually hints at ancient tribal literature We obviously realized that religion is a touchy subject and that we'd have to carefully consider the tone of the lyrics. It's still funny that you can publicly criticize and mock art and politics as much as you want, as well as artists and politicians but when you stick your finger in the hornet's nest of religion.. uh-oh. TROY: We were working on "Weak Fantasy" for quite a while. Tuomas originally used more direct, aggressive metaphors, but in the end, we decided to opt for a more ambiguous tone. Some people might still find "Weak Fantasy" confrontational, but you can have different interpretations as well. The wisdom is in the eye of the beholder. TUOMAS: We discussed this stuff with the band for hours on end, and everybody stood behind the lines in Weak Fantasy" for instance. In Nightwish, I have never felt the need to neither rebel nor preach, and that hasn't changed, but if the listener stops to consider different viewpoints because of our music, that's always great. There's never enough open, intelligent, and unprejudiced discussion in the world. Marco- There's obviously nothing wrong with leaning a higher power per se. A belief in something supernatural can comfort you and help you get through the day. But its just horrible when people use ancient religions as an excuse for their own utterly condemnable acts or to instigate senseless indiscriminate hatred towards others. Blind fundamentalism seldom leads to anything good, whether you bow to Allah. Jahve, Jesus, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or something else. TROY: As the wisdom goes, if you could reason with a fundamentalist, there would be no fundamentalists. TUOMAS: It's only during the last years that l've started to question my own religious stance. Why have I been a Lutheran and believed in the kind of God Lutherans do? It's simply because I was born in Finland in the 1970's. In another culture, in another time, there would have been another god above others. In 10th century Denmark, I would have worshipped Odin and Thor. If I'd been born North Korean, I would've been forbidden to believe in any kind of Supreme Being In other words: what you believe in - or what you think you believe in - is based on pure coincidence. TROY: It's baffling, but some of my friends are actually afraid that I will be cast intothe fiery pits of hell. I can only compare these dear friends of mine to chain smokers in this respect: they know it's unhealthy, but they still refuse to quit. I don't understand why people believe in something without any proof, yet laugh at other similar beliefs - I mean, if I were to claim that you can live to be 150 by eating just yoghurt, nobody would believe me. They would ask me for some kind of proof and research findings. Why can't they apply this logic universally? TUOMAS: To be precise, I consider my- self an agnostic atheist. I don't believe in God, so that makes me an atheist How do I know that God does not exist? I don't, but neither does anybody else. That's why I am also an agnostic. To confess that you do not know some- thing is actually an intelligent and constructive stance. It makes you humble, unlike a blind belief in something unproven MARCO: We had just returned from an 18-month hiatus, so everybody was itching to make some noise again even to rehearse! It's always interesting to play new material, because new songs are not in muscle memory yet. I'm using a double-neck instrument for "Weak Fantasy" for example, and there's a moment when I have to leave the bass humming, turn on the guitar, and, on a certain eighth note quickly grab the other neck. You have to practise these things quite a bit to be able to play them with confidence. About Troy... He plays: Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone On the pipes ("Please learn the setlist in 48 hours"): "You have to be slightly insane to play them. They're not easy." Tuomas told me he'd been working on "The Eyes of Sharbat Gula" for a while without really hitting the mark. As I was listening to an early demo I thouht it sounded so intriguingly hypnotic that it really didn't need explanatory lyrics. When I mentioned this to Tuomas he said it had never occurred to him to think it like that. The song became an instrumental although there are some ethereal human voices in the background. TONI: Troy, the other new member, didn't have to jump in as dramatically [as Floor], but he has become an irreplaceable part of this group, too. If there's tension in the air for some reason, Troy casts a spell and magically dispels the bad vibes. EWO: Troy radiates the kind of cheerfulness that we sulky northerners can only dream of, but I guess some of his positive attitude has rubbed off on us, too. TUOMAS on touring with Troy: We start preparing about 30 minutes before the show [New York Hammerstein 2015], each of us in his or her own way. Floor changes on her stage clothes and warms up her voice in her dressing room, while we`re warming our fingers in ours. Back in the day, I used to get scared stiff before the show - it was just nauseating, pure horror. It all changed when Troy did some kind of a hypnotic trick to me in Los Angeles in 2012. I really don't know what happened during those twenty minutes, but afterwards, I haven't really panicked before going on stage. Now, for a different view of Nightwish and religion, listen to Buenos Aires 2018 (Kaitsu drumming): Gethsemane and The Carpenter. Troy eas strumming the bazouki, the picked melidy was Marko on The Beast.

Fortunately, there is room for disagreement and different perspectives on the world, as long as we treat each other with respect. The problem, however, is that religion in the old days was used as a tool of oppression. Countless killings, torture, and power struggles have been carried out in the name of religion. I won’t mention any specific religion because it applies to all. I think the song is based on religion from ancient times and perhaps certain places on Earth today. Nice reaction as always Lanae. Don't get too hung up on the lyrics - faith and science can co-exist Humans don't like uncertainty and that's really why religions started in the first place - to help humans feel that they had some measure of control over whether the volcano erupted or the rains came etc. Science has progressed a lot since those early texts (from multiple religions) were written, so many of those gaps in understanding have since been filled - but we still don't know everything so there is still room for faith - but similarly faith needn't be an obstacle to accepting scientifically supported conclusions.

Nightwish recognises the right of everyone to believe whatever they want... but they reserve the right to say how they feel about it. 😂 Tribal Poetry is a reference to ancient books like the Bible and raising children from birth with such outdated beliefs is compared to mother's milk laced with poison. And yes those beliefs are a weak fantasy. However, you are definitely free to disagree with them and still enjoy the music. You'll have the same issues with their song Tribal, which deals with the same topic.

I am a Christian man, but this song doesn’t feel like opposing my belief. Even many people see this song as a favor to atheism, Tuomas has said that he is not mocking anyone or their belief, with these lyrics. You can add a question mark after every phrase. So it is sort of rising the question, is it like that or is it only what some people think these days. This is once again, like art often is and meant to be. To open you to thinking, but discovering the answer is yours to choose. Sometimes art want to show you the ugly picture, just so you know it exists. Tuomas was raised as Christian as many people in this country, but he has said that studies of biology and some other things, made him thinking more in to evolution. However, even some people very hard want to believe in evolution. The evolving is a mechanism, but as a man of science, how I see it, It’s a weak fantasy, for evolution being any explanation to life.

Yeah I don't think nightwish, or most atheists have a problem with people having beliefs, they tend to have a problem with organised religion, which is many ways has brought some of the worst atrocities to the world - while claiming to be the very institution to protect the vulnerable. Lanae, I have been an atheist before I even knew what the word meant. At school I refused to be brainwashed by my 'R.I' teacher (Religious Instruction)... INSTRUCTION, ...were they trying to instill in me a pre-medieval belief system that clearly wasn't working. I mean neanderthals looked at the stars and the moon, and in their naivety thought that there were 'Gods' in the sky, and when it thundered, the Gods were angry!!! Fast forward to today, with half the world at war, mostly in the name of religion? No thanks, I'd rather be a peaceful atheist. God it seems, is somewhat absent during these times.
@jeffreyphipps15074 күн бұрын
I don't necessarily think you should take this as criticism of one segment of religions, but of all religions. Religions share many common beliefs if you strip away the way god(s) are represented and even much of atheism follows these same concepts. We share concepts of right and wrong. Where we differ is that many religions think that other religions are bad and should be killed for that - this despite the readings of all religious books. Worse, these religious books have numerous errors when "bearing witness". The books of the Bible Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John are taken as if they are the same time frame, but aren't. Their accounts conflict in many ways. If you sat down and compared/contrasted things you'd realize that the content is wrong, like testimony at a traffic accident. However, there is one theme throughout the new testament that is common and that is that it is trying to correct some things in the old testament. Some of the things that were spoken of were likely symbolic - how do we treat people? We should be treating people with respect. This is a common theme in all religions. We are often taught things are different in the Koran - but they aren't. Extremist leaders in every religion paint the entire religion in a bad light. If religion brings you comfort and helps you respect others this is good. I have had horrific experiences with church officials treating women in my family as slave workers of the church, treating them as worthless without boyfriends or husbands. I had one preacher tell my mother to not come back without her husband (who happened to be working that day). She had formerly been a recording artist who was acting as the church choir director, but the previous preacher retired and the new one replaced her with a man (because that was man's work). We faced this male discrimination in eight other churches before my family gave up on churches and religion. Not on God, but on religion. I have differing beliefs based on the experience of drowning and waking up on the way to the morgue (scared the piss out of a worker). There is a hereafter. It's what you believe it will be, but it's only there if you believe it will be. Beyond that, death is indescribable. All you have to do is believe. Be a respectful person. That's the goal.

I am a huge Nightwish fan. I am also quite secularized Lutheran christian and I merely call myself agnostic. But this is something where I think totally different than atheistic science believers such as Tuomas Holopainen: Religion brings people sense of security and comfort and a feeling that they are being looked after. I don't like the idea that some other people are somehow entitled to tell other people how to believe. All that causes only anger and conflicts. Atheists are not entitled to tell christians that their belief is wrong. Not more than christians are to muslims or hindus. But we ALL should be entitled NOT to let other religions to affect our countries cultures, because that also leads to anger and hatred. Isn't it so?

"I get what they're trying to say . . ." Hmm. This is a song about YOU. Although Tuomas didn't mention your name, he wrote this song specifically with you in mind. Although you weren't aware of Floor at the time, she is singing about you. You were indoctrinated with tribal poetry of war, slavery, crucifixion, floods, fear and misogyny. Do you not think that you deserved a better tale? You're not headbanging to a song that you don't agree with. You are headbanging to a song that could have been called "Lanae's Song".

Absolutely love the grit in Floor's vocals here. Best grit in the whole d@mn verse. Always funny to witness Tuomas scorning "organized religion" to then go all preachy as a member of the Dawkins Cult of $cientism. Also quite ironic if you consider the lyrics abt "fear", how he has bent the knee to scientistic fearmongering schemes like the climate & CO(n)VID scares. He simply doesn't know science from a hole in the ground, which isn't his fault. Same goes for religion. He might wanna reconsider lending his ear to Troy's "Openly Secular" proselytizing on behalf of a rather shady org and reclaim his agnostic position from back in the day.
