I have 2.5yr old twins and they demand bottles. they still wake up every few hours wanting a bottle. doctor said a long time ago before they were two to get them off bottles and that they need to sleep throughout the night. wife keeps giving them bottles "because they're hungry" and refuses to stop. she just left for a couple weeks and thinking to stop giving bottles throughout the night. maybe give them one to get them to sleep but no more during the night. it'll be really rough. they get very mad at night when they wake up to the point they don't want picked up or touched. one of these days, I'll get a full night sleep again. thoughts?
@StephanieHajal2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Daniel! First, I totally understand your frustration. I also feel super embarrassed every time I take my 2.5 daughter to her doctor because she’s still on the bottle🙈 The shame they make me feel! For us, I really think it’s more about habit & comfort than Gianna being hungry - especially since she is a good solid food eater! We currently have our daughter weaned down to just one bottle of milk at bedtime. I’ve thought of doing two things to stop the bottles altogether 1) Have the bottle fairy come for a visit: pick a day when the bottle fairy will come to your house to pick up the bottles to take to a new baby. Make sure you talk about when that day will be and what/why it’s happening. Circle that day on the calendar to give your toddler plenty of notice because I’ve learned that my daughter needs that preparation to feel emotionally ready. 2) Cold turkey: just put the bottles in storage & be done with it. This could cause a few days of misery for all parties, but maybe it’s worth it in the end to break the habit for good🤷♀️ I’m totally not a doctor though, so take this advice with a grain of salt😆 I will plan to make a follow up video once we navigate the bedtime bottle battle too. Wishing you all the parenting luck in the meantime🫶🏼

Thank you for this very insightful video! My daughter just turned 2 and we started (again) to introduce her to a straw cup for her milk. She still prefers to drink from her bottle. She would try a few sips here and there but she wouldn't actually drink from it so I just transferred it to her bottle. :( I will try to purchase a Nuk sippy cup like you suggested. I hope she will like it. One thing that I really liked about your video is to try weaning off her daytime milk. What I tried was switching her bottle from a straw cup during bedtime. Maybe that's why it didnt 'work. 😅

Do you have any tips if your toddler is a picky eater/ doesn’t really eat much
@StephanieHajal2 ай бұрын
Hmm I don’t have a lot of experience with picky eating, but here’s what comes to mind: -serve the same food to your child that you are eating to encourage similar habits -offer a “safe” food that you know your toddler likes with every meal -continue to offer a food your child has shown dislike to before because tastebuds change every 10 days (this one worked with salmon for my daughter) -Make mealtimes a positive experience & try not to shame your child for being a picky eater (…not saying that you do, but just in general haha😅) Toddlerhood is a tricky time! Picky eating could be outgrown or it could just be part of your child’s makeup. For example, my adult sister WILL NOT eat a tomato to this day haha🍅😆 As parents, it’s our job to encourage healthy habits & accept what’s out of our control. Try to focus on your child’s strengths in the meantime. Are they a really good sleeper? Do they do well with independent play? Hope those help! Wishing you the best🩷

My son would refuse to drink all day if he doesn’t get a bottle
@StephanieHajal Жыл бұрын
Hey, Victoria! I feel you - that is a tricky situation. I know it can be easier to just give a bottle sometimes because it’s been part of baby’s routine & ultimately stops the whining. That’s awesome you are taking steps to wean at home though! I was very stressed about needing to wean fast, but I realized it can be a process that takes time for some kids. Maybe pack more snacks for your son when he’s at your parents? Or ask them to start weaning at their house by filling up his bottle with half milk/half water? Believe me, my mom doesn’t always follow my child’s routine either when my daughter stays at her house (ex = sugary foods, late bedtimes) It drives me a bit crazy even though I’m thankful for her help🙈 We try our best as parents. Sometimes kids will give up the bottle on their own when they are ready. Hang in there & know things will get better with time!🩷

My son is 16 months right now do you think it is a good time to start getting rid of the bottle
@StephanieHajal Жыл бұрын
Hi, Isa! Yes, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that babies start weaning from the bottle at 12 months and for bottles to be completely phased out by 24 months. Why do we need to stop bottles? The main concern is tooth decay from milk sugars sitting on the teeth throughout the day/night. Also, the sucking pattern from a bottle can also cause improper dental development for a child. 16 months is a great age to start the weaning process! I know this can be a hard transition for some kids, but just keep at it and know it will eventually happen. I’m happy to say that our daughter is officially done with her bottle at 30 months haha. I hope the tips in this video can be a helpful starting place🤍

I feel you🥺 Weaning is a hard transition for some littles because it provides a source of comfort for them. Just a genuine question, why should we wean our babies from the bottle ? During the day i mean.
@StephanieHajal3 күн бұрын
Great question✨ It's recommended to wean baby from the bottle because prolonged use can cause problems like tooth decay (from milk sugars), poor dental alignment, & speech delays (from suckling patterns on the bottle). It's important to transition baby away from the bottle and to a cup to help promote healthy habits & development. Here is an article explaining more: www.healthychildren.org/English/ages-stages/baby/feeding-nutrition/Pages/Discontinuing-the-Bottle.aspx

First off, as a nanny of 7 years and an associate teacher and certified infant specialist, as well as someone who suffered anorexia and bulimia and eating issues, we never ever want to use food such as crackers, snacks, cookies, for comfort. major anxiety on that one. my friend’s sister was in the hospital due to an eating disorder, and I now still use food for comfort, and I am overweight. By 20 lbs. Sooo I encourage other means personally. I do love the smoothie idea and the switching the drinks from bottle to sippy!!!! Awesome stuff! sippy cups tend to encourage an immature swallow pattern, but I get why some kids find them more comfy than the straw due to using the bottle so long. let them have their feelings yes yes!!!! I cut them from the bottle at 12 months because it’s easier the younger they are ❤ good luck guys it’s brutal out there ha

For example, start with 3/4 formula and add 1/4 whole milk to her bottle. Then, transition to 1/2 formula and 1/2 whole milk then to 1/4 formula and 3/4 whole milk until it’s all whole milk by baby’s first birthday. *The same could apply to pumped breast milk I’m totally not a doctor though, so definitely consult your pediatrician😆 I know this is a tough transition to make though, so my mama heart feels for you!
