Echoes is about feeling trapped while trying to leave someone, and the character realizing that the sooner he can come to terms with the outcome, the better it will be. The pre-drop line is him trying to get his partner to see this but his partner resists. The second verse is him going through the motions and realizing that he needs to embrace solitude. This is the first song of ours where we were involved in the writing side and trying to figure out exactly what the person was feeling and how to express that in the lyrics. We joined a couple writer friends in LA (who are also on other tracks on the album) and finished the song in one session. We also wrote 2 other songs in the same session.
