When Max Verstappen warned that if he has to drive at 101% every time, it will go wrong one day, it couldn’t have proved more prescient. The way Red Bull's Austrian Grand Prix ended had been brewing for a while and showed how fragile its pace has become.

I don't think it's all on Perez, Red Bull had been developing cars that many other drivers they tried can't drive. And this year this seems even worse. And they don't seem to want to bring in a top caliber driver who can disturb Max. I think Checo is trying really hard and Red Bull had offered him a contact, they didn't offer it to Alonso and probably to Sainz too. I think they want a mid driver on the second car. And Perez worked perfectly for them in 2021.

Actually it is Redbull's choice to develop the car towards Max's natural driving style. Perez is not useless; he prefers a car with a rear stability like most drivers do. Perez is constantly fighting the Redbull which doesn't give him the rear stability confidence to carry more speed into corners. And hence affects his lap times.

If the ridehight really is creating such an awful ride it's possibble that its just a case of Max is significantly better than Checo at handling that. Drivers have preferences in handling and if the cars problems are working directly against Checo but not so much against Max, (he's clearly not happy with the issues, but he may be better able to cope with them), its not a suprise Checo has been so bad the last handful of races.

Lando was not issued the penalty until after the contact . On lap 58, Lando's engineer got on the radio after lando exceeded track limits at turn 1 and told Lando, "Lando, third strike, so you've had a black & white flag, that was turn 1". So at this stage, Lando and Red Bull knew, but nothing was officially acknowledged by race control, or the stewards. On lap 59 lando locked up and went all 4 off, which should have triggered the penalty. On lap 60, Race Control acknowledged "Norris Incident: Track Limits-Noted". On lap 61, FIA stewards announced "Norris Incident: Track Limits-Under Investigation". On lap 64, the contact occurred and only after both cars were limping to the pits was Norris' 5-sec penalty for exceeding track limits announced.

Still, it appears the McLaren is the quicker car later in the race. It has happend a few times already that in the later stages of the race Norris has more tires left then Max and can push more. Overall I think McLaren are quicker but lack the experience of racing in the front. If they keep this up, next season might well see McLaren leading the championship. Perhaps even this season, but that will be a tough ask if RBR can still keep getting wins.

People always forget to mention that the rules of the sport are now designed to stop any team winning for multiple seasons in a row, so this was always inevitable. Since 2022 a handicapping system was introduced that limits wind tunnel time based on championship position so Red Bull simply aren't allowed to upgrade their car as much as other teams, and McLaren in particular have an even bigger relative boost in development having finished down in 4th behind Merc and Ferrari last year. Perez shows a pretty representative picture of where Red Bull really are with the development limitations they're carrying, while Max is proving himself to be a true once in a generation talent as he continues to put up a fight against faster cars.

Max Will always be an aggressive driver, Lewis ended up not giving in after a few races in 2021 aswell. As was senna and schumacher, which most praise highly. One issue before the incident was that Norris went out side of the track limits and the stewards took their time to give the penalty. The penalty for Norris came out while he was limping to the pit. F1 should introduce a penalty system that the drivers can take themselves. Depending on the circuit the penalty can be a long lap, a penalty corner or a section of the circuit on the VSC pace. The driver has to take the penalty when exceeding the track limits. The stewards have than only the judge if the driver doesn't take the penalty himself. Example if the driver thinks he was pushed out and avoiding an incident.Such system also avoids frustration on KMag behavior in Singapore, as he would be passed by all the drivers he was blocking .

Being such a short track, second to Monaco, the DRS was not so powerful where a car .08 sec a head was a sitting duck, even a half second interval was not close enough at Austria. I am all for shorter straights in the DRS era.

He could pass Max with ease on the last DRS straight between Curve 3 and 4 or catch him in the DRS straight in front of the grand stand between Curve 10 and 1, pass Max on turn 3 was more heart then mind used, a battle hoe have the bigger balls with someone that every one know have big balls is not the smartest thing.

I think both had similar laps on their tires, Lando had 7 more laps to pass on DRS zone 1 and zone 3, but decided to do it in zone 2 on turn 3 and the outside, that was not right thinking, not saying Max was not at fault but, contact at turn 3 is almost always happens if someone try to go on the outside, other drivers had contact as well there in this race.
