Sainz looking at the FW46: I can fix her. Reminder, he is a workaholic, very technically minded, has actually surprised Ferrari with his willingness to go above and beyond at the factory, is well respected by engineers from all teams he was at previously and, whilst correlation ain't causation, lest we forget, while he was at both McLaren and Ferrari they improved massively from a technical perspective. He can provide feedback, he does understand the specifics of multiple frontrunner cars and he has proven capable of adapting to multiple different vehicle characteristics, not to mention his strategic abilities. Williams finally improving their internal methodologies by switching to a proper parts tracking solution from Excel alongside other investments will likely benefit massively from Sainzs experience and talent.

Spot on, I feel something that hasn’t been mentioned about Carlos is that he is one of the most humble professionals in the grid never going into too much drama like we are used to with the usuals at the top. He has always has been a good team mate overall. An example is VER he made Redbull win the drivers Championship that gives Redbull "directly" 0 cash but has trashed all his team mates mentally RIC,ALB,GAS,PER... These drivers arrive to this team as a talented hope and exit the team as Jokes. I can only imagine how the team meetings are, how he will fight to get the car to perform to HIS driver style and not looking for the team. Red Bull lost $220M becasue of Redbull allowing ego take over a TEAM. This is why I value Sainz as a Driver and this is very important for a F1 team.

Aside from Williams and Hamilton, I feel like Carlos leaving Ferrari is breaking apart the best duo on the grid. It's been said to death, but Carlos and Charles are perfect side by side. And when you showed that Carlos has earned about 90% of Charles points total over his career, I think it's proof of how good he is. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but Carlos has fallen upwards every time he's left a team and has arguably never been the "first" driver on any teams he's been on. In Torro Rosso Max was clearly better, at Renault Hulkenburg was slightly better, at McLaren Carlos was slightly better than a rookie Lando but it was clear that long term Norris would be better, and at Ferrari Leclerc is clearly better and has scored over 120 more points than Sainz. No doubt Carlos os a good driver but he is not elite and has been very lucky to have gotten in with a better team each driver switch. I just think this is a normal correction to the course of his career.

Instead of being pessimistic about him going to Williams, I want to look on the bright side: Wewill get to see Carlos Sainz's contributions be part of the effort to turn Williams around from their costly 2024 season. That is what we are guaranteed to see him do, and only time will tell if Williams turnaround is a success. If Williams and Carlos Sainz does pull back into the midfield fight, this will be a nice hat trick for Carlos Sainz, which will make it three for three historic legacy F1 teams he was a part of assisting them in their pull up back to relevancy. After beginning his career in the high pressure Red Bull Junior team partnering Max Verstappen, he was moved to Renault as part of an agreement between Red Bull and Renault back then. I believe his experiences at these two teams nurtured his mindset and independence. He joined McLaren in 2019, after a disappointing 2018 year for them, and he, along with teammate Lando Norris, began pushing McLaren back into the midfield. The second time he brought a team back from poor form was Ferrari, where he joined in 2021, after their crippling 2020 season. Hopefully, his time at Williams will also be bringing back this team into the midfield fight. For my bonus wishlist for what I do want to se Carlos Sainz and Williams do It will be great to see him sneak the Williams onto the Podium, McLaren Brazil 2019 and Ferrari Hungary 2021 style. Even better if he can strategise a Williams Race win, just like what he did for Ferrari in Singapore 2023.

Really being generous to Sainz in saying he was relevant to Ferrari's pull up back to relevancy, when the only reason they were down out of a top 3 spot was because of the sanctions they took due to the illegal engine they ran in 2019. This heavily compromised the car for 2020 and the 2021 regs limited heavily what you can change on the car so they couldn't make a massive leap and they still had several podiums and even could've won a race (Monaco) had Leclerc been able to start the race. Since the new regs they've been back to top 3. So in reality Ferrari had a single nightmare year and was never out of relevancy otherwise.

Are they really? Teams don't exist in a vacuum, their position is relative to the rest of the grid. You could do a really good job improving your team and still lag behind because other simply did better or had more potential to begin with. Williams is still tiny compared to most of the grid, everyone is making heavy investements and pretty much all teams have good lineups now. It'll help them in a fight for P7 against the rest of the minnows (Haas, RB, Sauber), but with Alpine getting their shit back together and AM doing a decent job they're really still nowhere near where they should be given their pedigree. For 2026 again even if the Mercedes engine is dominant they'll be up against the factory, a resurgent McLaren and an Alpine that has proven can fix their car even when they fuck up. Best they can hope for is a 2014 type of season and Sainz knows that will not be enough for him.

I'm anticipating that Sainz will show that Albon is not as fast as he perhaps believes he is. Albon has only had Latifi and Sargent as measuring sticks, and Colapinto's initial speed proved that Albon wasn't as dominant as many perhaps thought. I hope Sainz has success at Williams, simply because he has found himself out of a Ferrari drive (that was not down to underperformance) and he deserves something good to go his way. He works hard, is fast, and hopefully finds a seam of good results that propels him back into a top team in 2027.

At this point that's just a lame excuse. Red Bull if they really wanted, that wouldn't be an issue. They just don't want a consistent driver, that has proven to adapt well to many cars, next to Max. Max is already explosive without having a teammate pressuring him, imagine with a teammate that made him sweat or doesn't immediately get out of the way? Red Bull doesn't want to deal with that. They are fully centered around Max, to the point of sacrificing the constructor's title, which is ridiculous. Especially since Max doesn't need this protection, he has more than enough talent to deal with anyone they pair him with.

Leclerc has improved himself, it was just less obvious because his standard has been set high already. While he still has the odd hiccup and struggles a bit in certain car setups, he's had a 50% podium rate this year and finished almost every race in the top 5. That includes a race from 19th to 3rd. He's become more assertive with his team (something people heavily criticized him for being too meek), his tyre managment is excellent and he's still been very quick in qualifying (I think he got like 2 or 3 poles this season) despite the car struggling with tyre warmup and having weaker qualy pace this year. Ferrari also have had compromised cars since these new regs (2022 - reliability, TD mandating higher floor edges, 2023 - race pace suffering due to a tyre-chomping car characteristic, 2024 - strong race pace but weak qualifying prowess due to difficult tyre warmup car quirk). If 2025 Ferrari gives him a quick and balanced car without any obvious shortcomings you will see him at his full potential and I expect nothing less than a title fight from him.

From previous interviews with James and Alex, you get the sense that he listens and values his drivers input. He's mentioned several times that Alex has spent a lot of his time helping his team mates, supporting them and even giving them advice on turns, gears etc. This is something you don't hear often. Rather disingenuous to not mention that he was offered a year's extension to his contract by Ferrari but he turned it down as he was holding out for more. That tactic is what cost him his seat as, when Lewis suddenly became available, Sainz was the one left without a seat in the game of driver musical chairs. I fear he's also made a huge mistake going to Williams rather than Sauber/Audi. Accepting a 1 year deal is just kicking the can down the road. Ferrari, only being willing to offer a 1 year deal at most shows Sainz that they don't consider him a long-term prospect. Honestly, a 2 year deal for 2025 and 2026 would've been great for both parties. Keeping Sainz just for 2025, then replacing him in 2026 means their new driver won't be up to speed with the team for the regulation change. Kinda crazy that they went with Hamilton instead of Sainz, but Hamilton is more for marketing than his speed I guess, they already know Leclerc is their number 1 and Lewis won't trouble him, which Sainz did... occasionally.

He does not have the talent to back up his ego.

That's a bit harsh, but has much truth in it. I disagree with the toxic environment, they got along with Leclerc well - maybe because despite the occasional shenanigans, Charles knew he can beat Carlos, and most of the time he did. But yeah, there was really no contest when shit got serious, like early 2022 or this year after Monza when there was a small glimpse of hope for a title fight. Until it was taken away in Singapore, Leclerc has beaten Sainz every race by quite a margin.

I’m confident with the improvements Volwes is making at Williams, and all the strengths Carlos brings, they’ll definitely be challenging Aston Martin for best of the rest throughout 2025 and 2026. Carlos will bring more performance from the team and from Albon. When Lewis undoubtedly struggles to consistently keep up with Charles and probably retires after 2026, I think there’s a very good chance Carlos will be back at Ferrari to see out the remainder of his career.

It’s ironic how Ferrari sabotaged Vettel out of the team for “financial reasons” and focusing on younger drivers, while they sacked the younger driver they replaced Vettel with for a much older driver that demanded higher pay and an ambassador role for no logical reason. They’re not going anywhere are they? Watching Ferrari is like watching Netflix, you always had to wait for the next season

Ferrari is currently a midfield team like Mercedes was back in 2012 before Lewis Hamilton joined Mercedes. Mercedes has been sabotaging Lewis Car since 2021 with the permission of Wolf, like McLaren was sabotaging Lewis under Martin Whitmarsh. Lewis's last 3 years at Mercedes were not his true performance.

Got what he deserved tbh, tried to play Ferrari by declaring he was looking elsewhere in Monza 23 and they mugged him off. Even had him doing sim work while Leclerc filmed his contract announcement video. Thought he was worth more than he actual is. He'll shine back in the midfield

I want to go out on a limb and say, depending on contract terms, if Carlos show immediate pace in the Williams, Stroll may feel pressure inside and out to give his sons seat to Carlos. One thing we scan over with Stroll is that he refuses to give anyone around his son’s age a seat. Overpaying for past champions can only last so long since the grid is getting younger. We’ll definitely see a more wreckless stroll if the rookies come in and show better pace.

I'm a big fan of Carlos because of his racecraft and teamwork and how he's been steadily removing mistakes from his driving and improving the areas where he had a deficit to his teammate. I think the real question in his move to Williams is Albon. We are penciling them into a repeat performance from Alex plus a bundle of points from Carlos translating into 6th in the championship but Albon has been on easy street for years with no pressure at all from Latifi and Sargeant so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to being beaten by his teammate from time to time.

Carlos is a very intelligent driver, and he will know that 2024 was a building season for Williams. James Vowles spent last winter fixing the structural issues there and got the team operating like a modern F1 team rather than a relic of the 1990s, and that inevitably impacted their season. Sainz and Vowles feels like a very strong combination and a great fit in terms of their approach. You know that there will be mutual respect and Carlos's input is likely to be given the value it deserves at Williams. I'd be willing to put money on him scoring a podium in '25, with the team being regular points scorers.
