Clearly McLaren did not run their race perfectly, but with such fine margin on the other cars even if they had all it takes is something tiny and unpredictable, the tiny delay to avoid the backmarker and gravel from rejoining the track at the wrong moment - anything that loses you a little time that you can't predict and suddenly you might well be behind on the track without enough extra car underneath you to do anything but push the other driver all the way to the flag (and that would be impressive with how bad the Tyres are).

here's my list 1. Great qualifying to start 2nd crucially ahead of Lando and Max 2. Choosing more downforce than George that meant he could George overtake when it started raining and could stay ahead 3. Great decision making by the team, the pit stops timing each time was perfect 4. Great tyre management, he managed to take his softs to the end while pushing hard, without destroying them like Lando 5. Talent, He was fast and built a gap to Lando and managed to stay ahead of two faster cars i also think George retiring gave put lewis at a disadvantage as max now had to get through only Lando

I can’t be the only one to have noticed that Max had DRS activated on lap 2 when he was outside the 1 sec window… right?
@alexandershaw23782 ай бұрын
Also, he had DRS when both he and Lewis were weaving through the back markers while even though Lewis was within a second before the ending of the detection zone, he still didn't get it. That either means he was too dialed in to notice that he had DRS, it was malfunctioning or something fishy occurred; I have no idea which.

@forestranger3122 ай бұрын
Whilst I agree with some of what you say you’ve missed the one vital difference which allowed Hamilton to win. The soft tyre for the final ten laps. Pitting him when they did gave him one out lap on the fastest tyre which was the soft. He gained the vital nearly two seconds on that out lap coupled with the 1 1/2 secs Lando lost in the pit stop. This enabled Hamilton to get out in from of Lando. If either of those things hadn’t happened Hamilton would have been behind Lando and used up his softs getting by or trying to. Vercrashen would have caught them both and won the race. So the soft tyre was the only choice to win the race for Mercedes with a slower car on mediums and hards in dry conditions. You made no mention of the amazing out lap from Hamilton which got him in front, all thanks to the softs.
@DavidJohnson-dc8lu2 ай бұрын
Norris asked for soft tyres it is clearly heard on the radio. The right tyres to be on was the mediums for all the drivers, Max, Lewis and Norris were all on the wrong tyres. Lewis's experience just prevailed. Only driver to get the tyres right was Piastri.

@biggallcaps2 ай бұрын
McLaren's mistakes were divided up differently between their two drivers. The late pit stop for Piastri was easily 100% the teams fault, and the audible on the tire choice and the botched pit stop position made those errors more like 50/50 between the team and Norris. The rain always makes the race interesting, but that's because it hurts younger inexperienced teams like McLaren.

@foldionepapyrus34413 ай бұрын
I agree they need to improve the tactical skills, as it really feels like they don't have any... However if they keep making leaps while the others make stumbling steps towards a faster car they could end up winning every race with the sort of margin of the Merc or RB dominance periods no matter how they screw up tactically as there is no doubting both of their drivers have enough skill to deserve an F1 seat...

@upon-fe27202 ай бұрын
It wasn't a gift. He worked his arse off for it. Norris had a quicker car and new softs on than Lewis and could not keep up. The main factor in Lewis's win today is his ability to drive in all conditions better than anyone else in the field. One of his greatest win and an absolutely astonishing achievement for a 39 year old. The amount of driver errors today in the top of the pack was plentiful. Hamilton made one error when both George and himself ran over a corner before getting onto inters. The fact is nobody was good enough for the win today except Hamilton, only Max had any chance, Piastri also had a good drive but couldnt make moves work in the second stint.

Just a tip. Fastest lap (in a race) doesn’t necessarily mean that the car is in great shape. There’s always context and in this case it was Carlos on a set of brand new Soft tyres any half decent car can get fastest lap as long as they have a new set of softs and the big boys don’t bother to go for it using the same method of Brand new soft tyres. Race pace is king. 👊🏾
