@@Chris-ql9bu the paddock garage's there just not enough of them and that's not an easy thing to change. Mercedes red bull and Ferrari have 3 garage spaces between them. It's a shame that the barriers to entry are so high for F1 now. It's always going to be a team being bought out and rebranded. Haas being the last new entry in 2016. While I don't like to see chancers just showing up it would be nice to see new teams on the grid. A 24 car grid would be fantastic to see again.

@@Rand0mContnt He did. In essence, what happened then, was that original drivers for AMF were Caffi and Bertaggia, however the massive mismanagement of AMF caused them to be refused entry in South Africa, with FIA claiming they did not register (in which they were right) and then came to Mexico with an actual entry, but without cars, which were not yet finished. Caffi and Bertaggia were legitimately criticising the terrible preparation, causing Sasseti to fire both of them and replacing them with Moreno and McCarthy (who at the time didn't have Super license and couldn't race (couldn't pre-qualify to be exact) in Brazil, untill FIA took mercy and kind of gifted him one). But then Bertaggia came to Sassetti with bunch of sponsorship money, so Sassetti wanted to drop McCarthy to take Bartaggia back, but FIA, due to his shenanigans with drivers wouldn't allow it. It seems that Sassetti then simply try to get rid of McCarthy whatever way he could, hoping that if McCarthy left team or was injured, he could petition FIA to let him take Bertaggia (and his sponsorship money) back.

The '95 Simtek was actually a decent car and Verstappen Sr. (on loan from Benetton) flirted with the points positions in it once or twice. Had they the money to run the car for the season, and reliably, they'd have probably scored a couple of points.

Adjusted for the inflation seen in F1, it was one of the smallest team ever in term of budget. It pulled over it's weight. They were spending near 5 millions pound a year when leading F1 teams were spending many times that... At least 4 if not 5 times that.

Simtek occasionally feels like they're cursed. The first actual Simtek car was the Andrea Moda in 1992, which they designed for BMW before selling to Moda when that fell through. Widely agreed to be a great chassis with an atrocious team and engine. In 1994 they entered themselves and immediately suffered one driver being maimed and another being killed in freak accidents and were saddled again with an awful engine and reliability from dodgy X-trac gearboxes. Again, really good car but everything else let them down. In 2010 they tried again with Manor/Marussia and were once again dogged by financial instability, awful X-trac gearboxes and two freak accidents that lead to the deaths of their drivers. Let's put that in perspective - not only have 3 of the last 4 fatalities for someone driving an F1 car been at the wheel of Simtek designed cars but the only Simtek running team that _didn't_ suffer one was Andrea Moda, and they all but actively tried to get Perry McCarthy killed. I'm not sure what supernatural being they upset but clearly it has a grudge.

Mastercard kind of shot the Lola project before it had a chance. The plan was to run in 1998 but the title sponsor wanted them ready for 1997 and they would fund the venture from F1 credit cards. The last mad hurrah of the old backmarker privateers. Although we got Stewart that year.

@@nate567987 I know what "vita" means and what a joke is, I don't have to open a Treccani to learn about those, but it was more of a coincidence that Ernesto Vita thought "the name of the team will be my surname but translated into english" (which is still better than Trebron, even on the track) and then it was a short-lived team, the real irony could have been in the past if many of his ancestors died at a young age or slaughtered animals for a living and the people ironically identified his family as the "vita" ones.

It's a shame about Simtek and Forti as they actually seemed to have fairly decent cars when the money dried up. If Simtek had been able to continue in 1995, it's quite probable that Verstappen would have grabbed at least 1 point in the more chaotic races and the 1996 Forti could compete with the other backmarkers and the team may have had future potential.

Tbh the video doesn't do any justice to Gabriele Rumi and Fondmetal - he was dedicated to turn the team around and their 1992 GR02 was quite decent at the hands of Tarquini, even qualifying in th mid-pack more often. But unfortunately at the time it came into existence it was way too late for the team. Anyways, thanks for shining a bit of spotlight onto these odd endevaours, this era of actually passionate people setting up F1 teams needs more love!

Fun fact about Andrea Moda: Roberto Moreno have been heard to say that the chassis for the car, was actually really good. But the lack of funding, weak engine, shitty management (tried to kill the other driver Perry McCarthy) and all around amateur behaviour of the team, was it's doom. He said that if the team would've been run by professionals and people who knew what they were doing, the team would've been steady mid-carder for the season. Edit: WHAT?!?!? Life wasn't number one!!??!??!?!

It is a shame that the only real shot Moreno had was an incomplete 91 season with Benetton (Ok, ok! He had to leave the seat for Schumacher! But he should not have to move to Minardi after two races with Jordan!) By the way, he is such a nicd guy! When I was a teenager in the 90s, I was with a friend of mine in a kart track in Brasília (capital of Brazil) and we spotted him on the paddocks. We, as good Brazilians, were not afraid to approach him in the hope of getting an autograph. He not only took the time to give us the autograph, but also spent some time chatting about racing with two random teenagers!

A little note on Roberto Moreno at Monaco in the Moda: That was in a Judd GV. The GV was underpowered but reliable. Just see what the Scuderia Italia did in 1991 when they got on track. It also was the basis for two endurance engines called the GV 4L and GV 5L, which are different from the GV in that the GV 4L is a 4 liter engine while the GV a 3.5 liter... I let you guess the cubic capacity of the 5L :P The GV was a bit of a benchmark in LMP1 and been reused in historic cars and boss gp because it's reliable, cheap, and give about the same power as engine from the early 1990s... Moda broke that engine in 11 laps at Monaco (not an engine heavy racetrack).
