For people that don’t know: This song played through a deeply visceral and unbelievably emotional ending to The Originals. As a man, I myself was sobbing uncontrollably when the characters were finally given the beautiful justice of their happy endings. They all went out in the deepest yet most beautifully poetic way. @@rajivmv314 ok so imma try to keep this short. The song, and the entire album is about a man going through his past lives (reincarnation). I also believe that it has something to do with Christianity because in the beginning of the song it quotes Bible verses. It also says “mother pulled from fathers ribs” in the song which is basically talking about how Eve came from Adam’s ribs. Anyways you hear.. “return me to the womb” this is basically a transition meaning he has finished his previous life and is moving into the next. Right after those lyrics you hear the “mother pulled from fathers ribs, little baby in a crib..” This is the beginning of his second life. You also hear a girl saying “Asa Nisi Masa” which basically means “the gateway to crucial memories in a person.” Right after you hear “Before the blinding light is split, through the prism of your organs into colors. All that being and nothingness, on the same Möbius strip, sleep and waking up” that part where it says “the same Möbius strip, sleep and waking up” a Möbius strip is like a this puzzle that goes on forever, he says sleep and waking as it keeps going on which means he has already experienced it, at this point it all the same because he has lived many lives before that so life has no meaning to him (him refers to the person in the song). when it says “on the first day, wipe the blank slate” I think it is referring to his third life. “But you find you land legs, and you learn to imitate, you’ll wear any feather in hope that your efforts attract a mate.” This refers to how he is adapting to his third life. “And do the light fades, it’s still your birthday, so blow out your past lives, like candles on a cake.” The light is fading, which I believe refers the him dying, and about to move on the his next life. “It’s still your birthday..” maybe he either died on his birthday, or he is going to be born soon. “So blow out your past lives, like candles in a cake.” Past lives refers to... well his past lives. This song refers to depression a lot so maybe the guy in the song is bored of just living life over and over and cannot find peace. So when it says to “blow out your past lives like candles in a cake” I think it’s basically saying something along the lines of “let go of your lives before and try to live a better one.” Anyways, idk if those are the verified meanings, but I do know that the entire album is based on a man living a bunch of lives. Also.. I don’t personally believe in reincarnation but yeah...

The Vampire Diaries ensured us everyone's peace in last episode. They gave us a proper finished story. The Originals just stabbed the white oak stake in my heart. Don't get me wrong this was an amazing and an emotional ending. I cried buckets, but I really wanted to see elijah find hayley (andrea) in the afterlife and have the dance she promised to him. I wanted to see klaus find cami and fall into her arms, all his hatred, his guilt, his paranoia, his violent tendencies etc finally all gone and his heart filled with nothing but love.
