The young lady on clarinet is first rate. The banjo picker is pretty good. The guy playing trumpet is uh..........enthusiastic. And Shaye is Shaye!

Fantastic band! Believe it or not: In the seventies a band with that name existed in our small town named MAYEN. They have not been so young and not so good.

Shaye is a wonder. This is such a surprise - such excellent players - the clarinettist really good, and the guitar and banjo too; piano great, when Shaye hits it.

overall a pretty good sound. certainly not in tuba skinny's league ( who is ? ) the trumpet guy is superfluous; the guitar guy should play backup only, as his guitar has a cheap, tinny sound. just my opinion.

I don't dump on anyone's efforts, mostly because I couldn't keep two notes in a row on key, but yeah, have to agree, nowhere near Tuba Skinny. (And oh do I miss Erika.)

Why does the pianist have to read the music. If she would just play by ear like the other's her playing would be less controlled and open. Anyway. just my thoughts. You don't see the old ragtime players reading music. I'm sure she is a very accomplished pianist but it would be great if she just opened up. Otherwise, the group is a "thumbs up" for me.
@PopsCoffee
@PopsCoffee 8 жыл бұрын
This is to misunderstand what goes on. The pianist is not reading the music. Her playing is just right in this ensemble setting. What she has in front of her is not 'the music' but a chord book and she is improvising just as freely as all the others. Her job is to lay down a firm foundation and not show off in a virtuoso fashion. Similarly, the others are not exactly playing 'by ear'. They have all had to learn and internalise the music, the structure of the piece and its 'grammar' - in this case the two 12-bar themes in F, followed by the simple and much repeated 16-bar theme in Bb.

Where's the problem? Better to read music. The old player's can't read the music. Today normal you learn at first to read music, so I too. For such player's it is really easier to have sheets. Not to play a la classical player's but for your own security it helped much. Believe me.
