That's a weasel by the way, not a stoat. Stoats tend to go for larger rabbits, but the babies are much preferred by weasels. The baby rabbit which was wounded and more or less disabled by the weasel no doubt. This is quite common; they bite to disorientate, sometimes hunting another one too, then come back and finish them off.

It’s best not to interfere with nature. If we interfered to save the life of every single rabbit everywhere their predators would not only starve but the rabbits would eat all the grass and other vegetation that other herbivores rely on to eat, causing THEM to starve. And at the rate that rabbits procreate - 1 to 12 babies with a gestation period of only 31 days! - it wouldn’t be long before they were out of control. There’s a balance in nature that goes far beyond “omg poor bunny”
