I've always loved electronics since I was 4 years old. Wish I had one of these as a kid. Remember helping someone replace their battery with it plugged in (could see it deteriorated). What a challenge that was

The mystery seems to be solved. I have been informed it is because some cable providers still use the WeatherStar that needs the data from the Videocipher signal.

In my old hometown the local cable company kept their WeatherStar 4000 running on the SD feed of TWC up until the very last day the damn things worked. I can't help but think somebody there must have been nostalgic about the old WeatherStars and convinced them to keep it for all that time, since they even had an IntelliStar on the HD feed so it probably wasn't exactly kept around out of necessity.

The reason they kept it was for legacy WeatherStars such as the WeatherStar 4000, WeatherStar Jr., and the WeatherStar XL, but on June 26, 2014 it was shut off I would say because it looked nothing like the current IntelliStars and they would've had to shut off the old WeatherStars because of a FCC mandate saying all of them had to have the SAP audio feed for voice alerts, and as a result actually, it shut down all the original IntelliStars as a result, ironically, I can't tell if it affected local stations because the ones in my area, the last time I checked, didn't have a SAP feed, or it wasn't working properly.

From what I have read, you can still use your old VC2 board in the new descramblers if you supply the system with the needed power, the only thing missing is the power that supplies the system with power to decode the signal. I may be wrong but worth looking into.

My prediction is when NBC Universal finally realizes that it is no longer cost effective to either operate any sort of analog cable transponder, and given that Videocipher scramblers/descramblers haven't been made in years, that will be when the C3-13 feed finally goes away. It would be better if they just simply made these cable companies downconvert their digital feeds for analog and killed the feed all together.

Any idea as to when this C3-13 analog signal will go dark?

Can you put out the black authorization screen and let us watch the old videocipher II + days again? Is this channel still transmitting on Satcom C3 - 13v?
