As someone who lives in the mid Atlantic, I feel called out. We do shut down over snow. 😂 10 years ago they said it was “too cold to go to school.” I thought my kids were pulling a stunt. It was a real thing.

Lived there 11 years. Portland is wonderful in the summer but the six to eight months of snow can be soul crushing for some. My mom says it has not been as snowy the past few years. Winter depression is a real issue so keep that in mind. Due to people from out of state buying or renting much of the available properties, wages have not caught up with the cost of living. Many people have to live a half hour to an hour outside of Portland and drive through the snow and ice to get to work. I am not saying people shouldn’t move there, but perhaps more should be done so that people born and raised there can afford to stay.

Lol I hope they are going to say about driving in Portland on the side streets. If you live in the city,,, pretty much all of them are automatically one way, though they're really 2 ways. So it's pull over if you can left the other driver safely pass through. If you move to South Portland there is NO parking on the street period from Dec 1st til April 1st. From midnight til 6 AM. Our rents are ridiculously high. Thanks to many moving here. There is an unlying unhappiness with this.

After learning how to fly Army helicopters in South Texas, I went to South Vietnam and then South Korea. I would always go back to South Texas when I now live. Hello from middle Georgia. We had our first white Christmas in Portland, ME and loved snow tubing for the first time in Westbrook. We've been 3 times and hope to move there within a couple of years. Maybe I worry too much, but I have so many questions! Do the car doors routinely get frozen shut? Suppose you're at work and can't go out and clear your car off as the snow builds. Are employers good about keeping up with the parking lots? I mean do you need to take a shovel to work?...lol. I'm also a bit worried about white out conditions since I'm a nurse and would still have to go to work. How often do those happen? Does it get so bad in Portland that you may have to shovel your roof? Some of those may sound like silly questions, but I've never had to deal with it so don't have a clue!
@sm36754 жыл бұрын
Snow happens and doors can sometimes become shut. A hot bucket of water can dry out the ice and rough snow and you will need a shovel everywhere. Only once or twuce a year do most people go and shovel snow on the roof. Btw I am from toronto, Toronto is colder than portland but not the same.
@autumn_b9054 жыл бұрын
No one in the world shovels their roofs. This comment must be a joke. There are items that you can purchase from home depot to thaw the locks on your car doors. That guy commenting about hot water is a hater. I live in NY and we get blizzards so I know how things are with snow.
@Memorie19204 жыл бұрын
@@autumn_b905 I know how I probably sound but not a joke. I wouldn't know and I've heard of this in Maine and you can find KZbin videos of people actually shoveling snow off roofs. Maybe he means warm water. I wouldn't risk hot water on it.

With the winters getting colder and the country's economy bubble breaking records, the winters in Maine are going to get scary. Just the other winter there was an oil shortage and it made me realize just how vulnerable it is to only have one source of heat. Wood stove is a must.
@LivingInMaine5 жыл бұрын
Hi Giffy. Thanks for you comment. We heat with both oil and wood, and have not had a problem getting oil. There was about a 2 week period last year after a blizzard and cold snap that caused a backlog of deliveries, though that was more logistical in nature than an actual shortage of fuel. In fact, fuel prices right now are the lowest they have been in more than 2 years. www.maine.gov/energy/fuel_prices/

Hi guys:) I have a qestion for you. Can I transfer my German Driver's License in Portland, Maine without having to take any tests.? Some US states have so called reciprocity agreements with other countries. This means that if your driving permit has been issued in one of these countries, you will be able to simply exchange it for a US driving license of that state (and typically vice versa) without having to take any tests. Thanks 😊
