Weather radio doing it's thing!

Thank god I plugged this thing in a few months ago....It's pretty old and was sitting unplugged. Fore some reason I plugged it in and it woke me up when a recent barrage of storms, tornadoes and high winds hit. Noting happened to the house, but I'm glad this thing will give me warning just in case. I bought this radio at least 6 years ago from an ABC warehouse sale. I have a few other portable radios, but they are never turned on, only the midland, since it has a wall adapter and doesn't depend on batteries. I would highly suggest people to get a device like this. With today's ever changing weather patterns, it could end up saving your life.

The weather radio that you have has the ability to operate during a power failure. However you will need to install backup batteries into the radio to ensure that the radio will warn you of severe storms even if the power's out. Having a radio like this is HIGHLY Recommended, especially if you live in Tornado Alley.

I remember that night. When your weather radio went off for a Tornado Warning, mine did exactly the same thing cause I remember I was filming one of the Tornado Sirens going off for a Warning in my bedroom while that F2 Tornado struck Dundee.

I'm going to build my own with Arduino, and have it respond in some way to the important codes. SAME messages can be decoded by a computer, so I'll have it ignore most of them and only warn me about things that apply to my area like flash floods and nuclear fallout warnings :)

I got mine from abc warehouse over 9 years ago, but you can still probably find it in stores and def online. You can shut off the weather alert feature if you want.

Midland is a really good weather radio company, the best ones being the mobile one, WR120 (which is this one) and the WR400

I know. During the middle of the night, my wr120 lets me know what's coming. You can also tune in to 1610 Am for noaa weather

I have 2 weather radios they can get annoying sometimes but you can never have enough weather radios they can save your life.

I agree...I spent $10 at Wal-Mart on mine. I just wish you could turn down the alert tone. I know it's suppost to be loud to get your attention, but, you should have the option.

some RadioShack radios can have adjustable alert sirens, but they are no longer produced so they are mostly on eBay. And if you can find one, you might want to get one.
