Good video with enough info that I could follow it easily. You said you put electrical tape on the back edge of the recoil lug/rear of the lug. I put tape on the front and sides of the recoil lug so there is clearance, and left the bottom and rear side free (just release agent) so that it mates with the epoxy directly. But yeah, thanks for the video.

its the front edge of the recoil lug, not the back edge. wrap the front of the barrel where it beds into the forend grip with electrical tape so that you can line up the barrel to center line of the grip...and this also sets the pitch of the barreled action in the stock. bed the floor plate to give the bedding a solid stable fixing point. tape the rear of the rear action screw area so that it does not make contact with the stock at the rear...allows for metal expansion, the same as the front of the recoil lug. bed the scope rail as well as the action. i also bed 1 inch of barrel from action forward, and plan to do more bedding work on the action side walls to further stiffen the action. currently at 0.4moa without tuning the bullets

fiberglass the internal ribbing of the forend as even the best plastic stock is lacking support.

Nice piece on bedding the vanguard mate. Got a question if I wanted to free float barrel but down track will replace with heavy barrel when original is done. Can you put a new barrel in one we've glass bedded and floated it ?? Regards Todd
@MudratsHuntingAnOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Gday Todd you sure can you would just have to get a piece of dowel or broomstick handle that would fit nicely with some 40 then 80 and finish of with 140 grit sand paper and work it until you can take a $20 note and run it between the end of the fore end and the action without fouling. Had to do exactly that with my Cz455 after bedding it when I swapped out the stock barrel for a heavy barrel bit of work but can be done no problems.

Hi mate, good job on the bedding, how's it shooting since ? I am about to do the same thing... just wondering if you could email me some pics of how you dammed the front of the barrel shank and also how much you had to take out of the For end to float the barrel ?
@MudratsHuntingAnOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
Mitch Brewer sorry it took me so long to get back to you Mitch it's shooting 1/4 inch groups now with factory ammo an 5 shot 1 hole groups with hand loads you just chop out as much of the front an side of the skeletal structure as you can all the way back to the action

I would have used wing nuts with a washer instead of the standard nuts. I like the straw idea and will try that on my rifle. And I would have taped the front, sides, and bottom of recoil lug, not the rear. _edit:_ After bedding my Vanguard I think putting tape on the bottom and sides of recoil lug only is the better method. I could be wrong but it seems there should be clearance on the bottom of recoil lug to allow screw to tighten the action onto the flat part tightly and the taper on the front of recoil lug will force it into the bedding tight. Bottom of recoil lug I don't think should touch the stock. I also bed the largest part of the barrel just in front of the action.

Peter Basha G'day Peter I was using permatex 30 min 2 part epoxy in this vid but I normally use Matchgrade bedding compound from Terminal Balistics Research if you goggled them they have it in there store by memory it's $40 an it's a great kit comes with release agent your clay for building the dams an the 2 part bedding compound it's the best by far I have ever used

Did the Accuracy increase after freefloating? i heard freefloat of this rifle chould make it worse? I never seen any before and after, so i cant tell :p
@MudratsHuntingAnOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
minibulten it made a huge difference it pulled the group size in considerably tighter
@minibulten5 жыл бұрын
Okey, sounds awesome. I will try this on my Vanguard s2, when I feel brave enough to do this job :)
@drewallen70285 жыл бұрын
I put my Vanguard S2 in a Bell and Carlson stock. It has 2 tabs in the fore end that cradle the barrel. I had read on a forum that people were grinding them off and the rifle started shooting inconsistently. I contacted Weatherby to verify and was told that longer, contour #2 barrels shouldn't be freefloated.
@minibulten5 жыл бұрын
Yea, i also read that at Weatherby's website. But my Vanguard S2 did not deliver as i expected. The first 2-4 shots are OK, but as the barrel gets warmer it keept spreading. Last week i decided to just sand down the barrel channel with a dremel tool, to freefloat the barrel from the stock. Even tho i didnt bedd the stock it made a much smaller group even after 10shots it made the same group size. From ~90yeard (80meters) i hit inside a cirkle of ~2inches (5centimeters), and before i freefloated i got a much bigger group and some shots didnt even hit inside a airrifle target. So for now im happy, its more then okey for hunting here in Sweden. :) But next year when the hunting is over, i will glassbed and use aluminum pillars for the screws.

How does it group after the bedding?
@xidengmao4292 жыл бұрын
It would be good if u could take some close up photos and put them into the video bloke.
@c6quad37 жыл бұрын
15:35 that tape should be on the front side of the recoil lug, not the backside. you want the backside of the recoil lug to be in firm contact of the bedding. tape the bottom, sides and front of the recoil lug to allow for space...not the backside.
@MudratsHuntingAnOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
c6quad3 because of the shape of the recoil lug you need the tape on the back side or it makes it impossible to get the barreled action out of the stock an it dose not effect the bed in any way
@c6quad37 жыл бұрын
i'll have to look into that when i bed my Weatherby VG2. from everything i've ever seen on bedding they've always taped off the front. i can't see from your video why the Weatherby would be any different from a Remington 700 etc...maybe i'll see what you're talking about when i get mine apart.
@MudratsHuntingAnOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
c6quad3 it's because of the way the front of the recoil lug is angled its slopped at the front if you don't tape the front you definitely won't get it out without breaking a large part of the bedding
@c6quad37 жыл бұрын
ok...i'll definitely keep that in mind see what you're talking about when i bed mine. thanks!
@c6quad37 жыл бұрын
just wanted to update you on my bedding job. i first put aluminum pillars in my stock. after those were set in place i bedded the action. only part of the recoil lug that i taped was the front. i didn't tape the bottom of the lug because i wanted that to contact my pillar. i didn't put any tape on the sides or rear of the lug and it popped out of the stock without breaking any bedding loose.

Cant see anything u did. The camera you used is to wide angle, along with to dark of lighting. Sorry good try but video was not helpful.

Very poor camera work and very poor audio. Can't see nor hear a thing you did. Why waste your time posting something of so poor a quality. I watched about 3 minutes and gave up.
