My WeatherKing Cabin delivery video.. Now the work can start.. *Surprise "reveal" at the end*.. It took over 2 hours from the time he showed up until driving away.. I have it edited down to about 20 minutes.. Thank you to "Boss of the Swamp" for the idea of putting reflectix under the floor joists..
call Kathy at 520-405-4528 at WeatherKing to find out what she can do for you.. I am not being recompensed in any way for this video or the cabin.. I am just trying to push some business towards Kathy who was instrumental in my getting what I wanted.. Thank You Kathy,, Aleyna,, and John..

I agree 100%.. It is very beautiful here but most people do not see it.. The desert has a beauty all it's own and I am thankful more people do not understand it because it would look just like downtown Chicago or L.A. if they did.. I am very blessed to have this little sanctuary for the time I have, and looking forward to a few more years of solitude and beauty, and contentment.. So, may I ask, where do you live and have you ever been to the desert.? Thanks for watching.. ..Happy Trails.!!

Welcome aboard! This is not so much a "How-to" as it is a "How-I" accomplished what I did.. A lot of things I learned from living in the RV transferred over to the cabin seamlessly.. I have more solar vids from then (2018) you might find interesting and possibly helpful.. Think of solar like you do a computer.. only 3 things you need to learn for a computer: using a mouse,, using a keyboard,, and watching a monitor.. That is really ALL there is to it.. same thing with solar; you have your battery chargers, (aka solar panels),, the charge controller to control the current going into the batteries,, and your usage controls , (aka batteries and inverter..) .. of course there is a little more to it than that,, mainly the wiring part that can be confusing.. .. Just found your video and wanted to say a belated Congrats on your new cabin! It's my dream to get a small shed and put it on a piece of land. My son has a farm in Northern Wisconsin and there's a small spot by the river which would be lovely. The only issue I'm worried about is zoning and government interference. I think if you're paying taxes on your land you should live how you want, period.

Welcome and Thank you.. .. Check on the size restrictions that require a permit.. They require a permit on larger than 200 sq ft here,, so this is 198.75 sq ft.. but just like you pay taxes on your car,, you can't drive how you want,, and a structure is much more permanent.. So if you follow code it "should" be doable.. especially if there is already a farm there,, how would they know you are not using it just for storage.. Don't let anyone look at it (or on property) without a warrant.. Good Luck.!!

@@deserthorizons I am up north in the high desert of Mohave County. I have already purchased acreage and an RV and am moving forward. Spoke with Tuff Shed about a customized model, but am not ready to have that done as of yet, as I am in the beginning stages. Need to fence the area for my horses first and foremost, and the barn will go up first. Although I hate to haul water, looks like that will be the way I have to go, seeing as wells are SO danged expensive and no guarantees as to actually getting water. Maybe at a late date...Solar is a tad perplexing at this time, so I am researching. Was happy to see you have a video on the air conditioning unit, although I have yet the time to watch that. I have SO much to accomplish, but with the way things are heading, I want everything to be completed and paid off asap! But as my favorite movies states, "Adventure is out there!" Thanks for the info you provide. Will be watching your channel and catching up on videos prior. How are you surviving with the changes to the border down there? I used to live in Sierra Vista, out Hereford way and left there because of the influx of illegals on my country property as it was not safe for a single woman rancher. Blessings!

@@catezaida8081 It sounds like you are well on your way.. Congrats.. Water is not really that big of an issue.. Figure out how much it costs to get setup to haul yourself or have someone else truck it in.. I will be here 20 years before doing it myself would be cheaper,, but by then I would need a new trailer so it starts all over.. I pay ~160 for 2100 gallons of potable water delivered about once a year.. Whichever shed you do go with,, be certain that ALL the windows are only 3' from the floor.. sitting on the couch I am always straining to see out the window as mine are over 3 1/2' high.. Solar is really easy when you break it down.. It has 3 parts.. Charging = Solar panels and charge controller.. Storage= Batteries.. Electric Usage= inverter.. Sometimes hooking those things together can be daunting but for someone that can run a ranch alone I am positive you can do it.. I have videos up about what I have for solar,, and I can help you design a cost effective system that will work for you, if interested.. ..Up to this point I have had absolutely no problem with any illegals,, I have only seen 4 in the 6 years I have had this place and they were friendly.. Thanks for all the information. I guess the difference is you got a mini house and Don got a cabin. I still don't understand why they couldn't give you the windows and things you wanted.. Your windows are beautiful and add a lot of beauty on the inside too. I like the idea it came with the porch. You will get a lot of joy out of having such a nice porch. It looks large. I notice you have bushes close to your dwellings. Rattle snakes are bad this year. Probably because of all the fires last year in Oregon, CA, Colorado and Arizona they are coming closer to people and water. I live in southern California and recently on the news a woman walking her dog ran into a Rattler that sudden appeared from behind a bush and bites her dog in the mouth. The vet couldn't save the dog. At the same time a man was at a city park when his 2 year old ran over near a bush. He heard a rattle where a rattlesnake was right next to his child ready to strike. . Luckily he was able to grab the child. You need to be careful out there. Arizona also has the tiny coral snake.The snakes are what scares me. Your lucky you bought a few years back as property is going up everywhere. What a pretty door on your little storybook house. I have watched Incredible Tiny Homes.com out of Tennessee since he started blogging. He shows how he builds his RV's he sends all over the country.. The tiny houses have much better use of space that stick built houses could incorporate into their builds. Well we had a colder winter this year with highest winds I've ever seen. Just hope we don't get the fires like last year and I hope Arizona stays safe. Cheers

They could have easily given me the windows I wanted,, IF I knew what I should have wanted then.. I was going to get a 8 x 24 and then add a porch later.. I realized that I got exactly that with this design.. This is essentially (2) 8 x 12 sections put together with a porch thrown in.. Once I was able to wrap my head around that,, the rest was easy.. I have videos from a coupla months prior to this one talking about "floorplan decision time".. .. I had a very close call with a rattler out here,, and Ruger has saved my butt more than once alerting me to their proximity.. I am always careful about snakes.. I saw a coral snake here once too,, but it wasn't "tiny".. it was a good 2' to 3' long.. I thought I was hallucinating because (in my mind) coral snakes were water loving snakes.. Only saw it once about 5 years ago.. .. I was being blessed when I found this property.. Exactly what I wanted where I wanted,, with a Saguaro in view..!! .. .. I keep thinking I need to paint the front door,, but cannot decide on a color.. "Opera Red" is the only one I have come up with but don't know if it goes.. Any Ideas.?.. .. fyi,, this little cabin is actually narrower inside than an RV... My motorhome is 7'9" wall to wall.. this cabin is 7'5" wall to wall.. but because I designed how I wanted things to be in here it seems so much bigger than the RV.. I always feel cramped in there.. I hope you and I do not have to deal with "the fires" this year.. but I fear they will be back with a vengeance.. take care have fun.. .. Happy Trails.!!

The reflectix does not work as insulation in your use case. It is more of a vapor barrier in the way that you're using it beneath the floor. It's a common misconception, but reflectix only works to mitigate radiant outside heat from coming in if there is an airtight gap. Some people will argue that it doesn't work very well even when properly installed. It will not keep inside heat from dissipating to the outside under any circumstances. I always tell people, just use real insulation. You can properly insulate with all sorts of things.

Reflectix is meant to be a radiant heat barrier, like you would use in windows or a roof. You are not avoiding much heat transfer from the ground at all. The aluminum foil is actually a good conductor of conductive heat. You should look up the 3 kinds of heat transfer: radiant, conduction and convection. You would have been much better off putting foam of some sort in the floor. Even better would have been some kind of thermal mass to retain the cool when things get hot and retain the warm when it gets chilly, like a nice bed of concrete.

Thank you for replying to my question. Why did you choose this cabin builder instead of the builder Don used. You have a nice piece of land . How close are you to stores and gas. You look like you are very remote. What I like about Don's place is he free of most regulations but he has solid neighbors. Of course that is not for everyone one. So many beautiful areas in Arizona. I don't like cold either. I would rather put up with heat than freeze. Enjoy your adorable cabin for years to come.

Howdy again Kim.. I chose WeatherKing for many reasons, but the 2 biggest were the windows and the fact they were the only ones that agreed to put "reflectix" (bubble wrap) under the floorboards at the factory.. I wanted windows that opened vertically,, not sliders.. .. On the way to Tucson is a convenience store about ~8 miles away.. ..Three Points, the town,, with a gas station/grocery/acehardware/propane and 2 dollar stores is about ~9.5 miles.. I have 2 neighbors within 600 feet but no others for about 2 miles.. Mailbox is 1.5 miles.. .. I have not had to deal with very many regulations and permits because of the way I do things.. ie: Pima county says you need a permit for a larger than 5000 gallon water tank,, so I got one of 2500 gallons.. Permit needed to have a "deck" 30"+ above grade,, so mine is about 15".. Permit for larger than 200 sq ft structure,, so mine is 198.75.. .. No septic here but the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality was out here and said the way I dispose of waste is acceptable.. (bag-n-burn).. . as I said,, it is easy to tolerate heat here because I get so much sun for the solar system.. Whereabouts are you now.? .. Thank you for watching.. ..Happy Trails.!!

If you just keep the door the way it is it still looks good. I thought they did a great job coming from the factory of giving you a great paint job that enhanced the beauty of your cabin so if it stays the same that would be great too. Of course you have said you like opera house red that is a darker red. Someone I know painted a similar red on one wall in their dining room that looked good. Since you are not sure of the red on inside of door 6ou could leave the door as is and paint your red on a piece of furniture cabinet or one small wall and keep the door as is. That way you would have your feel good opera red without worrying about red on the inside of door. What ever you do you have an awesome home. It amazes me what people are doing with a bare piece of land they are developing. 👍🏼

What is the hard part.? .. as with the hardware cloth i am doing the inside in an unothodox manner.. you will have to stay tuned.. plenty of time to get those "head shaking" muscles all tuned up.. lol .. Happy Trails.!!

The hard part is you having to do the interior finishing. The easy was the delivery. Looking forward to rest of the story.

@@oksteve5709 well,, see,, I "think" I have an easy way to do it all.. I am doing diy spray foam insulation which is already ordered.. Then it is down to the walls and floor.. The floor I already have rigid foam insulation put down and plywood on top of that.. I will put some carpet pad down and some rugs and the floors are done.. My plan is to use white reflectix for the walls & the ceiling.. (head shaking begins now) So that should be fairly easy.. The most difficult part for me is building shelves and cabinets.. I have never built either so I already know they won't be pretty.. we will see how it all works out..

Howdy Beverly.. Thanks, I love it.. Outside dimensions are 12' x 20'.. (with a 4' x 8' porch) so it has 192 sq ft of livable space.. If you are thinking of getting a shed be sure to order it with the bottoms of windows only 3ft above the floor.. (I did not do that) It is irritating to have to strain to see out the windows when sitting.. It is beautiful where your land is albeit a tad chilly.. I have about 200 videos of what I did to finish off the inside and outside of the cabin.. Thanks for watching.. ..Happy Trails.!!

Great.!! What is your "timeline".? Do you have the property yet.? The sooner you can get this going the better.. This was the best decision I believe I have ever made and I just wish I had done it years earlier.. and then if perchance SHTF than you will be prepared but if it never happens then you will be happy.. hey, great vid! I love the desert. Near the end of the video you said you were going to caulk everything. What is that for?
@deserthorizons
@deserthorizons 2 жыл бұрын
Thank You.. The desert is the only place that has ever felt like "home" to me.. Why Caulk.? The shed manufacturers don't care if this lasts me longer than 10 years,, I do.. So I caulked every exterior joint seam,, around all the windows,, and nailheads, etc. to keep water out.. Even here in the desert you do not want water getting behind your walls.. Since this video I have totally finished the inside,, furnished,, with appliances, and now a shower.. Thanks for watching.. ..Happy Trails.!!

The cabin is only 192 sq ft.. anything 200 sq ft or larger needs a permit.. . I can answer your septic question,, but you gotta send me an email first.. I have a letter from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality that spells out what anyone can do.. .. Go to webcms.Pima.gov to get as frustrated as I do looking for info and for more info about zoning.. .. Happy Trails.!!
