It definitely looks like an extremely capable device. And the price makes sense to me for all of that, given the generally premium prices for TE gear. The portability is also highly attractive, something missed by a lot of people who say "just buy x, y or z". I do note that if Ableton were to do a firmware upgrade to the Move that gave it 8 tracks instead of 4, it could be an awfully good alternative to the OP-XY. And it's a lot cheaper.

An iPad will last you a few years at best. The battery will start to fail, the apps you use will stop working if the developer doesn't keep them up to date. An iPad is a touch screen, not tactile at all. You can't develop the muscle memory you can with a physical device. And yes, the XY has a battery, but TE will want to help you replace it. Apple will just tell you the device is near the end of its life and needs replacing.

Yes, it’s true, a computer can do pretty much everything the OP-XY can do and more, at least in terms of making sounds and music and putting it in a certain serial timeline. But the process of getting there? It’s not at all the same. And for creativity, not just engineering… that matters a lot. It’s like saying “You want a Moog? Just get the plugin.” Yes, the objective stuff is (mostly) the same. But the experience is COMPLETELY different. That’s what a T.E. customer is paying for. An experience. Whether that experience is worth the asking price is totally up to the individual.

Not saying its not expensive for what it is, but to put things in prospective, you can find pianos that cost 10x what this does. I know people that have spent more on cymbals for their drum kit.

The OP shit is cool, but the pricing is absolutely horrible. You could get a used mpc one and mk2 for half that and have a much better setup going. They definitely have the "apple effect" where people will buy it regardless of how much of a ripoff it is 😂

I really liked the possibilities of the OP-Z sequencer. The OP-XY looks promising, but at what cost, unfortunately! And honestly, didn’t you also feel, like me, that all the KZbin videos of the OP-XY mostly showcase mediocre music? I haven’t heard anything yet that makes me want to dive in. This is also a comment that applies to the OP-Z, which, despite its punch-in capabilities, often results in mediocre music, particularly in terms of synthesis quality. Take Cuckoo, for example-his music doesn’t inspire me.
