I usually prefer your project videos, but I think this one HAS to be the most informative one yet. Thanks for the tips!

We are starting to add laser cutting and engraving to our leather project. I would love to see videos on applications of using a laser with leather. From project ideas, pitfalls, best practices, of there are any differences/challenges when dying and antiquing, best sizes and types of leather for different projects if different then from making traditional leather projects. I would love a video on hand sewing for beginners. Different stitch types, when to use which type on what, best practices, pitfalls, equipment/product suggestions. Especially if using a laser to precut the stitch holes-what size should those hole be?

Quality leather can be detrimental to one's progress. Especially if your learning to tool, stamp and carve. When I started some 20ish yrs ago there weren't many places to go for leather and used leather that was inconsistent density within a hide. and not knowing or understanding the difference it added a lot of frustration. I still may not be a master at tooling (really nowhere close lol) but my progress is 100 fold when using Quality leather that is consistent in throughout 😊

honestly I've been happy with every piece of veg tan leather ive bought from weaver. Wish i could justify some weaver select or herman oak but im not there yet, since im not "really" running a business

Why is the v cut double shoulder not what you would choose for stamping or carving?

I wondered that too

Great vid.. rewatched again!! Lol. Weavers packaging and shipping for products, is horrible!! Worst ive ever seen!! But, their people and their leathers are top- notch!! Leather always seems packaged very well, and the leather is great quality!!

If making belts or tack, remember leather stretches more in one direction. So if your are using a double shoulder, dont cut the leather horisontal. Its stretches so much. Cut it down the middle.

Does anyone know if I can get this leather in these cuts over here in the UK? As usual, thank you for the education and all the best from Scotland.

Are you better off to buy a double shoulder, full hide or belt blanks to make belts ? For a beginner and to sell . I have been getting asked if I make belts to sell. I don’t know if here to start. I currently make a lot of hatchet sheaths and a few knife sheaths.
@WeaverLeatherSupply Жыл бұрын
Hi Kris, If cutting the blanks yourself isn't an issue, then we would suggest either a finished double shoulder or our Water Buffalo Single Bends. These are both great quality but smaller than a side so it won't be as expensive right off the bat.

@@WeaverLeatherSupply all the leather I have bought from you guys is awesome quality! I bought a belly that I’m still working with. I make a lot hatchet sheaths. A few knife sheaths. But the veg tanned is a real joy to work with from you guys as well. Thank you for the reply !
