If you watch all of this video you deserve a medal. This is me weaving on one of the H&H looms, made in the 50's, each clip is about 30 seconds long so you can get a handle on whats happening.

Ditch the shorts or you will have oily knees,lol. 1950s looms eh, they are exactly the same as 1897 looms, nothing much changed, I am amazed you can still get the leather parts. watching the shuttle boxes reminds me of working out the colours so as no double drops or lifts unless absolutely necessary, I used to have a block of wood with a row of 4 holes down each side, then wrap the colour of yarn being used around a matchstick and then move them around to a pattern and see if it worked out, some patterns could be a real bugger to work out. The more I type the more it all comes back to me, I only worked on these for a total , hmm ah yes, crikey 33 years, omg.

You would have shorts on too in there! metal roof makes it super hot in summer :) Yes I have worked on the earlier ones, they are more or less identical just a bit more delicate in the casting. The last one I worked on still had the flat belt clutch!!!

I suppose the electric motor is a more modern addition to this machine?
@Phukermaritimerum2 жыл бұрын
Hi, No not really. Though not common in big mills. Looms had individual electric motors on them from as early as the 1930's
