This weaving tutorial on a rigid heddle table loom shows you everything from warping up the Houndstooth pattern to tying off the fringe. It's not a hard pattern, and it's so pretty!

Really amazing teaching tutorial. The intermitting music is quite loud, though :-) I really learned a lot from the tips you give and the really clear demonstration of "how" to do this kind of weaving. Thank you very much for posting!

Could you do all the blue in the middle first, skipping a slot; then do all the red so you don't have to keep tying knots? All blue would come over the stick and all reds would go under.

Maggie, you could give that a try. I guess it depends on how the two colored yarns interacted, how they crossed each other. Would they tend to slide around on the back stick? I don't know!

I've just started learning to weave - thank you for this very helpful tutorial. Can I ask which size reed your are using on your loom? My loom came with a 7.5 dent reed - I wonder if that size will be ok to use with the Simply Soft yarn you recommend in the video.

Hafsa, mine is also a 7.5 dent reed. It's stamped on the reed itself - I didn't know until I went looking, in order to answer your question :) I will only add this: when you've finished the scarf, before you knot the 2nd end, lay it out and smooth all the strands so there is no rippling or puckering in the scarf. I keep forgetting to do that! It can be eliminated simply by smoothing it out flat before knotting the 2nd end. Thanks for viewing!!

@@myownlittlehouse471 Thank you for the extra tip! I just finished making my houndstooth scarf - and with hemstitching on both sides it laid flat beautifully.

Great video! I just ordered my loom. I’ll definitely try this houndstooth pattern out. Is there a specific way to weave the ends in? I’m a knitter, so I’m used to weaving ends, I just feel like it would be harder to disguised the woven in ends on a woven piece.

Ashlen, actually, it's easier in weaving than it is in either knitting or crochet. The tightness of the weave secures the ends. You really just need to barely overlap the two raw ends, in the middle of a row. Don't leave your raw ends at the end of a row -- try to meet them together in the middle of a row. You might need to fiddle with it a bit to get those two ends in the middle of a row. Don't knot the ends, or you will end up with a very visible bump, but the two raw ends next to each other are nearly invisible. And if you have a little bit of raw end sticking out, carefully snip it off, flush with the weave. Good luck! A lovely weave is SO satisfying, and this houndstooth pattern is a classic! Thanks for viewing and commenting :)

Heddle is in neutral position. On time the yarn is over the stick, next time it comes from under the stick. Correct?
@myownlittlehouse471
@myownlittlehouse471 2 жыл бұрын
If you are talking about wrapping the warp yarn around the back warping stick - yes. Each time you wrap it around, you'll alternate under and over. But when tying on the 2 different colors for doing Houndstooth, you have to cut and tie each time, so the yarn does not "wrap around"; it's cut and tied to the stick each time.

70 inches!!! I'm amazed at how the pattern sort of develops but then I know nothing at all about weaving. There's a blog called Day by Day and it often has weaving as the subject. The dear lady is in her 90's, lives here in B.C. and somehow I think you'd enjoy her blog.

I'm sorry about that, Joni. This is one of my older youtube videos, and I really did NOT know what I was doing back then. There's a more recent (and shorter) video about doing Houndstooth. It might be better for you.
