Jessica Gerschultz, a PhD student the Art History program in the Laney Graduate School, is writing her dissertation on the art of Safia Farhat. Farhats woven tapestries uses a traditionally female art form, weaving, to address the role of women in Tunisia after independence, by incorporating both traditional patterns and abstract imagery into complex artistic statements.
