Chelsea represents am American Conscience long lost in the military industrial complex. She represents the value that it is not OK to kill innocent civilians, it is not right to incarcerate heroes who speak truth to power, she represents that she herself has a right to free speech. Do not kill, do not lie, do not bear false witness all are values in a "Christian" nation.

Damn, very intense. I totally support Chelsea, here are some impressions- • Needs to bone up a bit more on the big issues, seemed lost sometimes; • Comes across a bit too angry, should be more reasoned in arguments; • She says "people should be able to move freely, borders are imaginary" - get RID of this position! It will kill you in your Senate bid! Better: 'we shouldn't be building walls to separate us from Mexico; rather we should have better immigration policy that _______" (allows S. Americans to come for temporary work visa, be with family, walls symbolise oppression like Berlin Wall, Israeli walls, etc); • She says 'abolish prisons' - again too extreme; tone it down a bit, say instead 'release non-violent offenders on trumped up drug possession/sales charges', and 'eliminate private-for profit prison industry contracts with the federal and state governments; • She says 'Abolish ICE - excellent! This horrid agency should definitely be disbanded, going against this agency could bring in massive votes. Also call for the elimination of 'Dept of Homeland Security' which is a total, complete waste of taxpayer money. Chelsea is spot on that there are too many security agencies in USA, HUGE waste of taxpayer money: go after the bloated military police state budget that is destroying this country. Not to mention 'Homeland' reminds me of Adolf Hitler's 'Alles für das Vaterland'. Utterly revolting. But typically Bush/Cheney/deep state. It must go! • Very good sum up at the end about the obscene defense budget and how that money should be spent on Americans back home! She started in this interview a bit shaky, but ended on a strong note. Keep going Chelsea and wish you all the success in the world and then some!!!

octoberapple Agreed. Her anger and indignation are part of who she is. She has spent her whole life trying to be her true self, there's no way after the personal hell and torture in prison that she is going to moderate herself to fit in to the corrupt system. She is right to insist that corrupt systems cannot be changed, only struck down completely. This idea used to be considered dangerous but now through the work of so many including Chelsea it is seeping into public consciousness.

Yes. She didn't come across very good on the first question, when Amy Goodman asked what she thought about Bolton and Pence seeing her as a traitor who should be punished. She could have done much better than she did, as she rambled on how the government labels poor, homeless, etc.

I'm not sure what standards you are looking for. Do you want politicians who sound like canned robots or do you think we should seek new standards of electing real people who show authenticity and real patriotism? Most politicians just give us faux patriotism to disguise that they're actually just enriching themselves. Do you want those corrupt people to set the standards for politics?
@coreycox23456 жыл бұрын
I have worked with politicians and find her refreshing. The ones I know used opinion polls to develop a platform. A lot of people will be trying to discredit her. The thing that jumped out at me was the comment that she didn't finish school and worked at Starbucks, which I loved. After reading your comment and thinking more about it, this adds to her credibility. I would vote for her because it makes her look honest. She has earned her stripes in a far more challenging way than getting a B.S..

I just finished Chelsea Manning's book and saw her on Trevor Noah, and this older interview is difficult to watch -- because she just wasn't presenting herself well at all back then. And running for the Senate made no sense. She's a born activist, not a legislator. Her book is excellent, however, and you do get a very good understanding of her as a trans person and as an enlisted person. And yes, she's formidable and extremely brave.

I think that Wikileaks and what Chelsea Manning (and Edward Snowden for that matter) are very different cases.
@ladybug58592 жыл бұрын
Neil i agree. Manning was a 21-year-old child with --as far as I can tell --little to no education (possibly this local College) and they should never have been put in a position of such great importance. Manning horrified her and wanted to dump it because it was overwhelming and other people deserved to see it. The media didn't want the dump and Wikileaks thought it was an opportunity and took it and dumped it -- hundreds of thousands of uncurated pages-- which is not journalism nor do I consider it a responsible method of giving the people access to this information. OF course Snowden was the only one who was responsible. He's very intelligent and he curated it and he conveyed it to a media platform wherein tgey git a Pulitzer and he got banned from the country of his birth. Go figure.

If America is a democracy does the d-e-m-o stand for demon ?
@albedoshader6 жыл бұрын
I’ll just play dumb and ignore your lame word play and enlighten you instead. It’s never too late to learn something new: Actually, the “demo” in democracy means “people”, from Greek “demos”. “Democracy” as a whole means “popular government” (popular in the sense of “by the people”). “Demon” originates from Greek “daimon”, meaning “lesser god, deity, guiding spirit”, which in turn comes from Proto-Indo-European “*dai-mon”, meaning “divider/provider of destinies”.
