I know it is still 2017 but I figured we are close enough :) If you saw the 2017 version, there is a lot that is the same because the core fundamentals are the same but we have some new technologies and my outlook on certain things have changed a bit with experience. Hope you enjoy!!

*Brad* , I'm done with Vanilla Js and I'm eager to learn Angular JS. Which version of Angular should I start with ?
@devilmanscott7 жыл бұрын
Angular 5, which will change quite quickly, because the Angular team is copying React update schedule, hence React version is already 16, but be careful of Angular, it kinda locks you in, it's very hard to customise it, unlike Vue, React, Aurelia and so on.

Traversy Media Thank you Brad! I've been following your social media accounts and subscribed to your channel since June. You are an awesome programmer, you explain things in a very intuitive, balanced and clear way.. I appreciate it all! Keep up the good work! PS: Could you make some more freestyle coding videos? I think that adding a bit more breadth to your channel by publishing some samples of the kind of stuff you do in Eduonix and Udemy could promote your channel and more people will purchase the E-courses.

It's going well! I'm having a great time working with a small team of other devs. If only they knew how old I am, haha. A bit of a learning curve with me getting thrown into an Agile/Scrum workflow, and the whole team workflow in general, since I am coming from solo freelancing. But thankfully the team is pretty small so it's not too much of a shock. I'm loving my new career! I feel a bit lucky in part because I didn't have or do many recommended things. For example, I didn't have my own personal portfolio site, and opted instead to just post some sample links in my resume. I didn't attend any meetups, or social gatherings. Very little activity on Github. My Facebook and LinkedIn activity is practically none, etc. So evidently it's possible to land a dev job without these things, but I'm sure you'll get much better odds if you do. :)

Thank You Brad, I don't know but just an advice for everyone who want to start with JS Framework, try to go with VueJS, it is so easy, light and quick to catch, go with it first then pickup : React or Angular(I love it :D ). VueJS it is easy to use with WordPress or Laravel, it can be a good replace for your JQuery and it will give you a big view about how other big JS frameworks works? Especially React.
@mackenziebruce36397 жыл бұрын
Mourad Bougarne I still recommend react, just use create-react-app for your boilerplate. It will take care of Babel, Jsx and hot reloading. Then learn all those stools after react & flux but before redux
@MouradBougarne7 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I did not use it before, I take an overview and a short course about it, it's like introduction of it, but I'm an Angular lover :D I did not mean that Angular is better than React or vice versa no at all, I just like it. I' working with both Angular and VueJS and I find that VueJS it will be a good for a new one with JS frameworks. BUT I'M WITH YOU, they must take a look at React or Angular, both AWESOME!!
@takeshiwan6 жыл бұрын
a nice advice to me! I was going to take Udacity's front-end dev program, it schedules to bite some JS frameworks before really diving into React. But not Vue.js included. Also good to know that Vue.js can be a substitution to jQuery. jQuery isn't beautiful.
@johndough86996 жыл бұрын
Mourad Bougarne - That has been my experience, as well. I’m going with Vue. There aren’t a lot of Vue jobs in my area, yet, but I think it’s only a matter of time.
@TheSHIZZLEFAHIZZLE6 жыл бұрын
I’ve developed on all three frameworks this past year. I started with Angular4, moved on to React, then tried Vue for a quick turnaround project for a smaller client. Tho Vue is easy to pick up, I think react is far more powerful yet lightweight enough to pick up quickly. It also doesn’t have as steep of a learning curve as Angular. I’d say, if you’re looking to develop in the future and you haven’t chosen a framework yet, try out React first.

After that I wanted to start programming (I thought it wud be a good timing with my class in school so I could get ahead), I asked for some advice to my dad and he sugested starting doing basic bash programs like math operation in a seperate file and all the good stuff. Im curious about your job, can you tell me more about it? Btw im french so dont mind the shitty grammar.

I feel like Laravel and .NET are the most solid technologies on the server side. If someone established himself as a front-end developer, then Node.js could be a good drive, but choosing the back-end as a career path, I think Laravel and .NET are the most solid, well establish back-end technologies. Django is maybe great, but I'm not confident in Python's future regarding Web apps.

Nice video enjoyed last years and this one is legit too. Now my only thing i would point out after doing a bunch of research all over the country python for web development barely have any jobs compared to other languages like php and node.
@davidbasil27277 жыл бұрын
True, even rails is much more lucrative in terms of web jobs. Python is used mainly for data mining, science and general programming tasks. People should not focus solely on Python but have it as a one of the tools in their toolbox.
@stefan48007 жыл бұрын
David Basil And not just that, Python require far more skills and experience which is kind of in contradiction with a video which is for newbies. Not to mention that things like machine learning require quite a bit of math, and, whith C# solid abilities to solving abstract algorithms, implementing design patterns and most of the time it will require CS (or related field) degree. Most of the people who are watching this videos doesn't fits in this. Not even close. Even though I highly respect Brad and think he is a great teacher and person, the video is pretty much misleading. Most of the time requirements for C# entry level position will be: CS degree, OO programming, design patterns and ability to solve algorithms heavily based on math. The language itself and fancy Web tools are't that important.

as someone who's been working as a front-end/full-stack WAMP dev over the past 6 years, I've avoided adopting newer technologies or even front-end frameworks because my job required everything to be developed from scratch, and the demands of the job didn't really allow for any pet projects. A big warning I would like to put out there for people who are thinking about learning and using a Document database like MongoDB for their project. Document databases are only faster than relational databases in very specific scenarios. Make sure you pick the right database for the right task because you can have problems down the road. Read this article if you're interested www.sarahmei.com/blog/2013/11/11/why-you-should-never-use-mongodb/comment-page-1/ Unlike the article's title which is a little bit click baity, I would not say NEVER use it but consider carefully if it is the right fit for your project!

I started coding 7 years ago and I honestly don't know how people keep on coming up with new projects and ideas. I'm sitting here forgetting the basics of Java and Python!
@RoadToFuture0076 жыл бұрын
Maybe you have to learn by doing not sitting. Even if you write down and test small snippets of code it is much more efficient, then just trying to read and remember.

I haven't left a comment before, but I just had to thank you for this. I've been looking for ways to get back into web development for a while now. I actually did a little bit of web design a few years ago during my first degree, but after I graduated I went on to study journalism. After graduating that, I felt the itch to do more with design again, so now I'm doing a bachelors degree in multimedia design and that familiar itch for coding and the like is popping up again. I have a strong feeling I need to stick in this area, so I'm really happy to have found your videos. I'm hoping they will help me lift my knowledge and capabilities to better levels. Thanks for the great video - also I love the easy way you explain things and the comfortable tone-of-voice. Thank you!

Really when it comes to browsers I have to disagree. How can you recommend a web developer to use ONE browser :D I have all of them installed and every browser makes something easier. For browsing for resources I often use Edge: I can write on the webpages and store my tabs. And they get synced like in other browsers, but I'm logged in with my MS account anyway. Developer tools are best in Chrome, in my opinion, so I use that. Crosschecking your site in the other browser is something you should do at every time. Either I misunderstood you, or we have different opinions :D But I like the video.

thank you!!!! Thanks to your commitment on teaching and learning I'm getting everyday closer to that 2/3 mark. Other than APIs/REST, I've had the opportunity to work in one way or another with all kinds of DBs, Servers and LAN/WAN that the more I study and apply I realize it's just learning syntax and tricks of the language/framework/technologies.

GraphQL and Progressive Web Apps are 2 things I really wish I mentioned. Im going to gather some more and mention in the description or do a part 2 with more advanced stuff
@markhaus6 жыл бұрын
I'd say his priorities in this video to get full stack devs up and running through self learning were quite good. GraphQL is growing very quickly but is not quite popular in the industry yet to warrant entry and junior level devs stressing about learning it yet. I think Go might be a better topic to learn first because of its huge future potential as a skill but I wouldn't say it's there quite yet.

This is a great video with some good common sense guidelines. Watching it I was nodding my head saying, 'yup, yup, yup'. But most spot on is in its closing when you mention having confidence in yourself when starting out. Hugely important and a real leap of faith when one gets to that point. Your words ring very true.

@SXsoft997 жыл бұрын
well from my experience, learning basic functions, targeting and triggers for start, after that learn how to search or ask on stakoverflow
@tomihawk017 жыл бұрын
I'd say there are two stages. Learn the syntax of the language. How to define variables and objects, understand variable types and scope, how to write functions, pass in parameters, return values, handle errors, loops (for/do/while) and conditionals (if/switch), etc. This will get you going with node.js. The next step is using Js on a web page so learn how to manipulate the DOM by changing text on the page, reading values from input fields, capturing events when buttons are clicked or keys are pressed, etc. After that, move on to a framework and it should just fall into place.

You have to understand the trickery of javascript - its quirks. Variable scopes, "this" keyword and how and when and why it works, probably float issues (var x=0.1; var y=0.2; x*y = 0.020000000000000004). You would also have to understand fundamentals of creating classes and its objects, functions. "==" vs "===", endless ways of doing for loops. The quirks of the JS is the thing that you need to understand. Once you understand that, you will save a lot of time later.

Hey Brad, this overview of technologies is one of the more helpful ways to help people figure out where to start, how to grow your skills, to add some structure to all the billions of possible tools, languages, techniques etc out there. The fact that you start with the really obvious stuff (HTML5, CSS etc) and move into more advanced stuff in this video provides a roadmap. Without it some people would get lost in the minutiae.

Thanks Brad for your awesome tutorials. I have been following your tutorials for several years, love the format and clarity. One quick minor note on this video, my primary browser is Chrome and has been for years. And while we all have our favorite browser, we MUST remember to test across all browsers (or at least all browsers we are supporting) when doing front-end design. Also, make sure to keep in mind that users can turn off pesky stuff like javascript on the client side, so we must consider the fallback handling. I know these are basic introductory videos, this is mostly a tip for newer developers to keep in the back of their mind as they learn and grow! But again, thank you and great work, always enjoy your videos!
