In this video, I played every F1 game since 2009 and crashed in each on to see how the crash physics has changed over time. In each game, I went into a Grand Prix and tested this by crashing into a wall and one unlucky driver.

I remember that back in 2010/2011 the cosmetic damage was crazy. To the point you were able to break most of the shark fin/engine cover/car's nose/sidepods. In F1 2006/CE you also had the chance to break the nose without breaking the whole front wing. Damn sponsors, they ruin all the fun!

I've recently played F1 CE and that is slightly wrong. You could damage the nose without damaging the wing mostly if you lightly crashed in the back of someone but the wing always came out entirely although it actually broke into multiple pieces while doing so which was cool. Also if you had some mild damage to your front/rear wing, they would wobble around a bit which was a great detail of the game(the PS2 version of the game also had that)

i personally think that the 2015-2019 damage models are better than the 2021-2022 ones. for some reason the tyres in the newer games feel extremely buggy when they come off, and they constantly cause the tyre to go underneath the car and flip the car over in like every wreck

I’m not sure how true it is, so I could be wrong, but I heard that the don’t make those kind of damage physics because, the sponsors on the teams won’t be happy seeing their car get crumpled like it was Burnout Paradise. A stupid reason if true, because, on this generation of gaming, we should have true to life F1 damage and, a game that genuinely punishes mistakes like real life.

I miss the crash physics & damage model of the old grand prix games from Geoff Crammond. Even the cars could break apart if you crashed hard enough. The crash physics of the Codemasters-Game were always "meeh".

I don't understand why they dropped the "confetti effect" when you hit something. It doesn't damage the sponsors but I feel like it adds a lot the accident. It's a simple, low-memory detail that adds a lot to the crash.

Definitely feel ya on the tires when you crash. Seems it was better in older games. Nowadays the the tires seem to be possessed. Edit: we NEED G-Force for crashes back. Especially with how much the Max Lewis Silverstone crash was talked about. It'd be cool to see what the highest you could get is.

I think they need to have a look at the back of the car for better damage (like Tsunoda’s crash in Imola 2021 qualifying and Sargeant’s crash in Zandvoort 2023 in qualifying) This is one of the best (informatic) videos I’ve ever seen

Me and my brother were playing f1 2009 together when we discovered a glitch in monza where if you hit a driver and the curb on the first corner you get send flying. The best collision I ever got was one that sent me into one of the stands to the left of turn 1.

If I remember well in some games like F1 2011, when we have a heavy crash we can even brake the camera at the top of the car and the mirrors can also fall off. Unfortunately I don’t think that’s thé case in thé games of nowadays… Now they even removed the scratches on the paint of the bodywork…
