Windsurf has a few ways to keep it from editing other files. 1. Prompts: Tell it not to change any file other than a specific file or function. 2. Command: Instead of using the chat, you prompt directly in the code. You can even highlight specific portions of a function to improve. 3. Use the .codeiumignore file to keep it from even recognizing specific files or even entire directories. 4. Review its outputs and don’t accept the ones for code you want unchanged. Also, you can always just update your settings on what it has permission to do alone. Only accept changes to the files you want. Haven’t used the other products. Been using Visual Studio for years at work.

Really useful video. I’ve been building a full stack app with Windsurf and while it’s definitely had issues, I’m blown away with how quick and easy it makes developing apps. I’m completely new to app development but I’ve learnt so much about how they’re built etc. Still got a ways to go but Windsurf has been a pleasure to use as a beginner who’s willing to learn.

Appreciate this brother! I was just about to dive into Windsurf this week and then got inundated with all the new advancements with other ecosystems. It feels like Windsurf was the future of last week. After watching this, feel confident resuming my path with Windsurf. Appreciate you! Would love to watch you build something with a Social Element with Windsurf moving forward!

Awesome brother👍 …at the beginning when the video started I had in mind to stick to VSCode+ChatGPT…towards the end you said the same thing 😊..I spent a great deal of money and time in Agentic IDEs and AI inbuilt IDEs but came to the conclusion that it’s better to climb the higher learning curve in the beginning itself than to get bogged down in distractions..

Thanks, great vid. Started using windsurf a few weeks ago and it's been great as long as you set the scope fairly small and specific. I'd like to use something to kick the project off though and build all the UI... so I guess V0 etc would be good for that? Yes.. MVP...

Nice job. One minor point though. You can use windsurf without cascade. Seems like windsurf was nerfed a bit when they changed the price. Anyway, I've used windsurf quite a bit with Cline with no issues. Gives me access to a broad range of LLM.

ChatGPT Pro Mode and Claude set up in an agent framework, no channel, no self-interest outside of using them all. Note: Did dev work off and on for twenty years, enterprise architecture, and info/cybersec for over fifteen. I've been using AI for five years, so that should be clarified. All have their issues, 90% of the work is imposing constraints on updates and expansions or it will be a shitshow. Come up with idea Build back-end Build middleware Build front-end Keep all parts separated and most will work well, but pro for architecture and Claude to code with pro validating constraints is the "easy mode" button.

Great video. I do gotta say it’s almost infuriating when AI influencers say wow what a great deal on this product. It’s price so low. It’s like do you guys not even realize the product team or executive team watch these videos? Obviously they’re gonna hear that kind of shit and raise their prices. It’s why pro is $200. And in a year it’s gonna be $2000. That’s why windsurf raised their price. If you think it’s a bargain, just say it’s fairly priced. It’s not really rocket science guys.

For VS || AI seperation, the editing is a pain once chatGPT outputs you code and you have to put it back in manually. I suppose you can ask chatgpt to output full code and just overwrite.

Windsurf and Cursor are great until the app starts to get complicated. I've had both desteoy hours of work from a simple request. Yesterday I asked cursor for suggestions to fix an issue and i provided the suggestion to Claude, which also had all of the source files. Claude basically said the suggestor didnt know what they were talking about and provided a simple solution. I laughed and closed Cursor. And Windsurf, I dont trust it AT ALL!!!!

Hey Corbin, fire video. Question, have you tried a local LLM with a Bolt fork? I believe the reason Windsurf loses context and changes the wrong things is the token limit with Anthropic. The bigger your chat and project gets, the less relevant information the AI gets. This made me think that a local LLM like Llama, even though maybe not as good as Claude, would allow you to give your entire project to the AI with no token limits.... given you have a good machine. Thoughts?

Respectfully you have no idea what Cursor does or how to use it, my codebase has over 100 files, 20% of which are over 500 lines and with the right prompting and 0.43 Composer I almost never deal with it trying to delete all my files You would take 2x the time to build an app that I would because of the super slow IDE to ChatGPT progress, and I'm happy to put it to the test Cursor beats anything on this list by far

I think Lovable started life as GPT engineer didn’t it? I saw you can integrate social logins and payments just using drop down menus. I don’t know if these things should be handwaved by AI, at least right now I’d rather have a fully trained and accountable human do it. But this genie isn’t going back in the bottle.
