RJBURG commented on your video Weber Lighter Cubes - Questions and Suggestions, "take off all the foil full with wax then cut them out."
I've also had a couple of messages asking:
Will a wax-covered Weber lighter cube light if wet?
Does a wax-covered Weber lighter cube burner longer than an un-waxed one? How much longer?
I will address these questions and suggestions in this video.
Thanks all for the questions,
and thank you for watching my videos,
Hiram

Great vid Hiram. I was just doing this this evening. Thanks so much for proving the Weber Cubes are basically WetFire, and the idea of the wax coating. I use these at home in my fire pit, as well as camping on the trail. Keep up the great work.

I like you way of coating them best, so far.

I wrapped some in aluminum foil tape in 2014 and took one out this weekend. It lit right up just like new.

Have you considered just dipping the package upside down a couple times? the excess would just go back into your wax container and you might get a more even coating.

What about coating it all in wax then when you are ready to use, cut of the wax on the side you are about to light? Solves the storage issue and then allows for a faster lighting process.

Used my girl's old scensy wax. Just poke it with a toothpick & treat it like a chocolate fountain. Also, I use only one cube for my chimney starter. Its always gotten my charcoal going.

I still like the wax idea best. I use half cubes dipped in wax. Place them in my tinder. Smash the cube and light. The wax actually makes it better then the wetfire from my experience. The only problem I've ever had was when I left a pack in the sun and the wax melted.

Leave the wick in but instead of lighting it like a candle turn it on its side. It should ignite the cube quicker.

Wondering if you took the wicked one and laid it on its side before lighting whether it would start the cube burning faster?

The wax definitely extended the time.

It's quite obvious that the main issue here, is PACKAGING. And thanx to Mr. Cook, we all now know that "AIR" is the culprit behind the short shelf-life of lighter cubes. So instead of Hiram coming up with clever ideas on how to best extend the shelf-life, Weber should redesign the packaging to guarantee durable air-tight compartments. Furthermore, design a package with "perforated" compartments that allow consumers to easily scissor out cubes to avoid damaging the other compartments.
