Love the channel, but I just don't get why EVERYONE on youtube keeps saying that the 1200 is only good for 2 people. You can fit 6-8 burgers or a full filet, or a couple racks of ribs, etc. on the 1200. I think the 1200 is perfect for a family of 4
@ChicagoGriller3 жыл бұрын
Guilty! You're right the 1200 can feed four. But I think the real estate does fill up in a hurry depending on what you put on it. For something a bit more dense like burgers, yeah you can pile on quite a few of them in one batch to feed a family. Thanks for making your way through the channel :-)

Thank you so much for this great comparison video, Chicago Griller! I was on Amazon reading reviews on both the Q1200 and the Q2200 and both sounds like they're loved by the people who purchased them. But I was having a hard time choosing between the two since I can't see them in person side by side. Your video helped me make a decision and I went ahead and ordered the Q2200. I pulled out the tape measure after I saw you measuring both grills and it really helped put the sizes in perspective when you placed the Q1200 grill grates on top of the Q2200 grates. What a smart thing to do. You really know how to illustrate what's important and what the differences are between the two products. Thanks again, this helped me tremendously!
@ChicagoGriller3 жыл бұрын
Hey Johnny! Thanks for watching. Yes the size difference is noticeable when side to side and when stacked. For me, there's only two people in my household so in reality, the Q1200 would have been great for me, but I do like the bigger size of my Q2200 series for the odd ball larger roasts or any time I want to prepare larger portions. Either way you can't go wrong, but you are going to be thrilled with your new Q2200.
@populistparty2010 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for this no-frills review of the difference between these two!! You answered my biggest question.....what the heck is the difference between 189 cubic inches and 280 cubic inches in terms of grilling real estate! After you provided the actual inches we're talking about, I grabbed the tape measure and compared. Hugely helpful in making a decision! Thank you!

Good video. The one thing i feel like everyone is missing in reviewing these portable grills is packed diemensions (side tables in ready for transport) after all the main reason many are shopping for a weber q is as a portable grill. Everywhere i look even webers web site only list diemensions with the side tables out. Also square inches and tape measure measurements of the cooking area are nice but what i think would be better is load each one up with burgers so people can see the difference in cooking space in a way that they can picture. Thanks mike

@ChicagoGriller2 жыл бұрын
Are you using the Weber roasting rack, or are you using foil? I use foil and have found if you poke more holes (or larger holes), you can get higher temperatures. The wind is definitely a challenge. Fortunately my front deck has brick walls, so I have my Weber Q out there below the brick so it gets shielded by most of the elements.

Hey Chicago Griller, you mentioned you converted your Q2000 to Q2200, how do you do that? Could you explain? I appreciate your answer. 😊
@ChicagoGriller4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sergio - there are 3 main differences between the Q2000 and Q2200, and you can do all three if you are handy: 1) install a lid thermometer. 2) replace the lid with the higher domed lid and 3) replace the ignition with a battery powered ignition. That said, #1 is the most important, and probably the only upgrade worth doing if you didn't buy the Q2200 to begin with. A new lid and new ignition system to install is not worth buying unless you have to replace them as part of long term maintenance. Thanks for checking out the channel!

@ChicagoGriller Жыл бұрын
I believe the lid on the 2200 is slightly higher domed than the 2000 series (and likewise the 1200 is supposedly slightly taller than the 1000) but I am not sure if that makes that big of a difference in practice. For example, I modified my Q2000 with a thermometer, but to date it has not affected or impacted what I cook inside of it.

What do you think about the new Weber Traveler? Looks like it has about the same output as the Q 2200, slightly larger cooking area.
@ChicagoGriller3 жыл бұрын
I think it is a very interesting looking product. I'm curious to see one in store when they become available, but it looks to essentially be a slightly larger Q2200, and I am assuming what should be a sturdier, but built in cart (the Weber Q portable cart is too flimsy, in my opinion). The thing I am curious about with the new Traveler, is what you can fit under the lid though. The nice thing about the domed Q lid is you can fit some pretty big stuff under there for roasts like whole chicken or duck or pork shoulder. I'm not sure you'd be able to do that with the Traveler.
@pioneer77777773 жыл бұрын
@@ChicagoGriller I put in an order for one. Planning on using it as my primary gas grill. Also bought a Summit Kamado E6 to do charcoal cooking. Currently use a Kettle so I figure I will just use the Traveler for smaller, quicker cooks and any large, low and slow will be done by the Kamado. Figure on my small deck a full size Genesis would take up a lot of room, plus there are only two meat eaters in our house as my wife is vegetarian. Also I like the idea that it's portable. Never have had a portable grill before, so maybe that will be a worthwhile purpose for it as well. Edit: Thought more about it and got cold feet. I think I may hold out and get a larger grill down the line. Potentially a Genesis 335. Better to save my money I think and get the larger grill later.

A small 1-lb bottle lasts between 3-4 hours on the Q1200 (it lasts about 2-3 on the Q2200). I find if you do rely on those small bottles, always keep a spare in case it runs out mid-cook.

Can you use 2 zone cooking on either?
@ChicagoGriller Жыл бұрын
It's difficult since these grills only have one burner. The only safe way you could do it is potentially cover one half of the grates with foil, and then lay a small baking rack on top of it. This would allow you to have half the grill exposed to the flames but leaving the other side as a cool zone (since the foil would block the direct heat).
@KenAdams4263 жыл бұрын
how do they handle flare ups? in past experience with gas grills, use to have some flare ups.
@ChicagoGriller3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ken, the Weber Q is prone to flare ups with fattier items or items with oily/buttery marinades. This is because the burner tubes are largely exposed. Those burn off quickly but you have to make sure you keep your cook box reasonably clean of grease... but this is true of probably any gas grill. I grill about 2-3x weekly, and I find if I do a quick clean and wipe down of the grease in the cook box and replace what's in the drip pan about monthly, I am good to go. Knock on wood, I've not had any grease fires yet.
@davidpaulk56583 жыл бұрын
Do you get a smoky flavor from the lid being closed without using a smoke pack or is the smoke pack necessary? Thanks
@ChicagoGriller3 жыл бұрын
Yes you will get a very small natural amount of smoke, just from grease and fat dripping/rendering onto the flames and back up into the dome/lid. However, it's not really that pronounced. If you want much more robust smokiness you're going to need to use wood chips in a pouch. Thanks for watching!

I have the Weber Q 120 and I used it alot when I worked in Tucson Arizona . I normally prefer grilling with charcoal but in Tucson it was really hard trying to light charcoal because of the altitude.... After 20 minutes of trying I had to bust out with the propane torch to get it started. Using the Weber Q is so much easier. I cooked everything from steaks to tater tots and pizza the only downside is that I noticed the burner seem to be a little weak I guess it's because of the altitude.

If you are just cooking for 2-4 people, the Q1200 is probably perfect if you're not doing anything crazy. If you're doing a larger tailgate or camp, then the Q2200 is probably the way to go. Thanks for watching!

In Australia we don’t actually have the models that take the butane canister. All our models only accept LPG bottles unfortunately. Was confirmed by local Weber dealer. If anyone knows a way to convert it or any parts I can buy let me know! :)

Thanks dude! If I were to do it over again, I'd get the smaller Q instead of the mid-size one for my household of two.

Yeah a bunch of measurements and even sitting side by side it's hard to tell the size difference. Glad this helped!

Can you please send me the link of the 1 liter portable gas tank?

Depending on where you live, you might not be able to get these shipped, but this is what you are looking for: "16oz propane" www.lowes.com/pd/BernzOmatic-1-lb-2-Pack-Pre-Filled-Propane-Tank/50235565

I have the Q1200 and love it, but it’s too small. Takes me a while to bbq because of size. I have to wait for food to get done before I add something else. Going to upgrade to the Q2200.
@ChicagoGriller3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sandy I do agree with you there. I recently picked up a Q1200 myself because it was cheap used, and it’s a fun little cooker but if you have any big eaters in your household you will need the bigger surface area of the 2200!

Great job!! I have the Q 120 which came out before the Q 1200. It's over 6 years old and it's been a work horse. I will be replacing the burner tube in a few months. That will be the only repair/replacement I will have done. NO complaints.
@ChicagoGriller4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael! Funny you mention the burner tube, that also has been the only replacement part I've had to do on my Q2000 in 4 years, which I did this spring. I actually have a vid about burner tube maintenance in the queue. Thanks as always for your support!

I’ve just read this comment and I’m a bit confused. I know how to clean the burner tube but how and when does it wear out. Unless it goes rusty it is made of stainless steel, the gas simply flows through it, so I’d like to know: 1) In what way does it wear out? 2) How do you know it’s worn out? Any views you could pass on would be much appreciated.

The only thing i care about is even cooking. You shouldve put some bread all across the grills to see if one side burned hotter than the other. I want one of these but only if the burners cook evenly.
@ChicagoGriller Жыл бұрын
This is a good griller hack to check for even temperatures across the grill. Definitely worth a video in the future. In my experience I have a cool spot in the upper right of the Q1200, but it is pretty even on my Q2000.

For us apt dwellers with very limited patio space, the q1200 is the only way to go, the 2200 is just way too big and the q1200 has plenty enough space for just me and my wife. Not mention, most apt dwellers don't or can't use 20lb tanks
@ChicagoGriller3 жыл бұрын
I see a lot of Weber Qs in the city... truth be told if I had to do it all over again I'd probably get just the Q1200 since it's just me and my fiance.
