Webern was an outstanding genius. He knew instinctively when to stop. Many/most contemporary composers don't have a sense of proportions.

Very influential piece. You can hear the Lyric Suite and Bartok's first sonata for violin and piano. Early 20th century avant garde classical music developed its own stock of musical cliches.
