I met one of the shadow cats in a server the other night. They were really chill, just kind of floated around/walked through the ocean and sat and watched me and a group of people fish. They sat on one of the rocks in the ocean and waved at me at one point. They had no name and would occasionally try to say something only for an empty chat box to appear. The server gave them the title of spooky cat friend and treated them like our little cryptid buddy.

In versions 1.08 and prior, grincher was indeed capable of using an in-game exploit to do stuff like delete your fishing rod and mail you so many items that your game crashed. However, in v1.09 (and farther in v1.10), the ability to do so was patched, so now he just makes a billion lobbies to flood the server browser so people can't join each other.

Not sure if it is one of the hackers covered, but when I first got the game and joined a public lobby I was spooked by what people called 'god'. Assuming it was a modder having some good fun, someone with no name joined and wasn't in spawn. People were talking about him and when I said "wait who's the god" an all void black dog with antlers emerged from the pond in front of me until I went "WHAT" and sunk back into the water. Spooked me good! Seemed harmless enough but I got a photo and I'm so glad I did.

So, back when Skyrim Together Reborn was released, there was a cryptid that stalked me and other players. He was a Skeleton by the name of Ildren, and he'd turn himself invisible every time he entered a new cell. He'd scuttle around and watch you, and while invisible, he'd walk in front of you so you get the interact with player prompt when trying to leave a place. I ran into him once or twice, but never again. Since then, he lives rent free in my head. Pretty cool to see other "cryptids" in other games too.

With the Grincher thing, I do want to add that there can be numerous players 'posing' as Grincher just to scare people; Webfishing uses native Steam usernames. It's still better to be safe than sorry with sus lobbies, but a 'Grincher' sighting may very well be just someone changing their steam name as a joke. I suppose the only way to tell is if the host can kick them or not.

I've actually spoke with Grincher (we have a fanclub discord that he's actually in lol). So the way he's able to join everyone's servers is via a script. He's not actually there. He's also got the ability to "steal" your server code in order to redirect other users to servers such as, recently, "Grincher's Evil Room". He's also able to get around the ban/kick function too, somehow. So far, we've got over 300 members in the discord who have actively been in Grincher lobbies, interacting with the guy and no one has had any issues other than mild frustration (or obsession with some members, and their art lmao) in regards to him stealing lobby codes. No reports of saves getting bricked, at least none with any proof. I honestly think it's for attention, and messing with streamers. Speaking with the guy firsthand, it doesn't seem like he has any real malicious intent, just wanting to be this omnipresent mysterious being lmao EDIT: That being said, if you have real proof of your fishing rod getting deleted, please reply lol EDIT 2: I wrote that all out as the video was playing, so you kinda just said everything I just did xD oops

Something worth mentioning since I have not seen it. Since the bug patch Grinchers main exploits are patched however he code guesses/ joins via godot console (bit unsure) anyway hes unbootable and he infects the lobby making it redirect anyone joining to his lobby instead which he then grabs their ip since servers are Peer To Peer. Currently he's nothing more than some guy looking for attention and it shows as he spends up to 8 hours messing with people.

Hey there! Im part of a discord where someone was able to get more info. There is an "original" grincher but theres also a bunch of fakes, aswell as bots. For the most part, people and bots with the same name usually use the name to scare people, or try to make ur game slower through messages loaded with a lot of items in such. I believe there used to be some glitch or something where he could delete ur rod, but thats been fixed so for the most part grincher is pretty harmless like u said

In Oceania servers, we have someone whose’ name is a link to a fabricMC discord server. From what I’ve heard, the reason you can’t kick these people out of lobbies is because they aren’t actually connected to the server. They’re using a godot/steam exploit to inject code, making the game think they’re connected. When you try to kick them, it fails because there’s no actual client to kick.

My first experience playing it at 2am (having never seen anything about it before) was my friend getting spooked before I then joined to a giant void ghost cat with no name or face floating in the distance that disappeared and reappeared all over the place, above the lighthouse, above the ocean, walked on water, sometimes walked slowly toward us, and said nothing. SCraping Ip's i use to do this in COD MW2 as a teen, yes you grab a list of IP and can send shell packets. (DDOS) normally nothing big they just boot you offline for a min but very annoying if you have set your IP to be static. FYI, small new indie games are a hotspot for hacker's/modders.

There are cheaters and there are people who use cheats to keep lobbies alive, that’s what grincher was, when all the lobbies got switched to “same name 300 times” grincher spam joined all the non bot lobbies which bumps it in the lobby list increasing the likelihood of a new pop lobby

9:15 When I was playing on a public lobby a while ago I had one John Webfishing repeatedly join and leave, like the other bots. The other guy in the lobby told me that he was a bot (also evidenced by his lack of ping and my inability to kick him). He would continue to leave and join for the hour or two I played and nothing happened after that.
