I cannot believe as a professional in the field of young children with disabilities with 30 years of experience is discounting specialists such as Occupational therapists, Behavioralists, Speech Pathologists, and Physical Therapists in this webinar, And the fact that NAEYC hosted this view. This webinar is about inclusion, and by operating that Pam knows best and experts know nothing, you have exluded yourself from professional collaboration and unlimited potential of helping the children in your care. You do not know everything, you are one human being and every child who has a disability needs a team of professionals to support them the best that they can. I am a paraprofessional getting my degree in Early Childhood Education and I am shocked at this statement by Pam and the implications of her view. I sincerely hope Pam takes a good look at herself and her beliefs that she is teaching inaccurately to early childhood educators who rely on information from webinars to further their training.

she wrote and published a book on Inclusive education. she is an expert. Also, her video is focusing on helping the classroom teacher, and any other educational professional.

@@maureenloonam3453 I never said she wasn’t an expert. I said I was disappointed that she is alienating other professionals in the workplace who support children. I was referencing what she specifically states in the video, I understand that she’s trying to help teachers. But you don’t help anyone by discounting other professionals who also work with children who have special needs.

I was shocked at this. I say each child has a team that should collaborate and communicate what works and what's been tried and tested already with each child. Having an open mind that a para has a great technique to teach a specialist is impractical as a general teacher listening to the specialist. Egos get out the door, we should only seek to find the best practice that works for the child of matter the title... even the kids peers can bring great ideas for accommodation.

I appreciate this podcast. However, as a lead preschool teacher, I do try to include a particular child and he will just hit or push the other children. The child randomly wil smack another child in the face. Where we do draw the line? It's only been about 6 weeks of school. We had a week school closure due to the DOH shutting us down. Then I was told that I did not have clearance to work (it's my 4th year), only to find out my clearance was completed in July! The other children take the brunt of this child's physical behavior. I am fortunate to have a floater work with just this chid but it is not always the same floater. As the lead teacher along with my assistant and floater work to redirect the chilld into doing an activity without hitting someone, grabbing the toys they are playing with, scratching another child or taking a marker and drawing on another child's face or clothes. I am required to leave open bins on shelves for all children. However, there are many things I keep either hidden or on a high shelf such as scissors. I am at my wit's end and exhausted dailly.
