Description
The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has estimated that the number of adults with diabetes is expected to rise from 425 million in 2017 to 629 million by 2045. Type 2 diabetes mellitus does not
cause specific symptoms for many years at onset, which explains why between 25%-50% of the cases of Type 2 diabetes mellitus remain undiagnosed at any time in the community.
Studies have shown that people with prediabetes who take part in a structured lifestyle change program and lose 5% to 7% of their body weight through healthier eating and 150 minutes of physical activity per week can cut their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% (71% for people over 60 years old). Primary care represents an important venue for addressing diabetes prevention.
This webinar will provide a brief overview of the current experience in preventing type 2 diabetes in primary healthcare in different parts of the world. Experiences from Europe, South America and India
will be presented.
Webinar participants are encouraged to share their experiences and bring questions on various aspects of diabetes prevention in the population.
