after running "npm start", how did it know to use the index.html in the dist folder, as opposed to the index.html in the root directory?

The HtmlWebpackPlugin took care of that for us! I believe you can even delete the index.html in the root directory at this point. However, I typically configure HtmlWebpackPlugin to use the root index.html file as a template because I typically want to customize something about the document.

Simply setting "plugins: [new HtmlWebpackPlugin()" didn't work for me. I had to add the "devServer" option and the "hot: true" property to it so it would work.

​@@bradgarropy Brad I think he has a point.. dev-server and HtmlWebpackPlugin are hardly related. This video makes it look like you need the HtmlWebpackPlugin to be able to watch your changes - which is not true.

This is Live reloading, hot reloading and live reloading are different
