It would be great to hear these fine overtures in a new recording on period instruments. The well known 8 symphonies have been recorded many times but the overtures such as these and a another set of 12 have received less attention, they are equally as fine.

Listening to this recording again, I'm impressed by the liveliness of the performances. The English are good at following fashion and when it passes, forgetting everything they thought was wonderful.

Most things sound worse on period instruments. But, I would bet they have been recorded on period instruments, and probably posted on KZbin. I wonder if Mr. Boyce would rather hear this version or scratchy and Stravinsky-ed on period instruments? I'd bet if we could bring back composers from the 17th and 18th centuries and play them our ideas of "historically informed" performance, they might scratch their heads and ask, "Zounds, sir, why would you presume I wanted this to sound like that?"

It's actually not too bad considering it was recorded in 1962!

it's of it's time,Period Instruments are just one way
