Patreon isn't a one time payment. Plus most of the Patreons I've seen have the author providing some form of work in return. Some even only charge when they release content. It's also your own fault if you subscribe to a monthly one without actually getting anything in return. TL;DR: Patreon is basically a platform for Indy subscription services. So I really don't get why people think Patreon is begging. You'd have to say Netflix is begging for money then.
