How to Capture Mini DV tapes with Premiere CS 6

I just want to thank you so very much for your excellent tutorial. You are the best teacher I have seen on youtube. I'm a person that loves perfection. I looked around and couldn't find any one to do a better job than you. You showed me how to get started without going too fast. Your video is priceless for a beginner. Thank you! Of all the programs to use, I didn't think of Adobe Premiere!! One thing, can I drop videos while on record? I have letterboxed videos where the black bars above and below are literally part of the recording. Appreciate your straightforwardness.

Premiere won't find my device, I have a Sony dv camera. I'm guessing it's because I tried to capture with a USB cable and I probably have to use some other cable to capture video from the camera?

How can I do, when I don't have firewire port, PCI and Express Card slot in my Acer laptop. Only RCA grabber helped me?

I have serious problems with capuring from tape (HDV) into Premiere Pro CS6. There seems to be no differenec at all between the two buttons "Cancel" an "OK", that appears in the dialouge-window, when I press "stop" to end the capture. Even if I now press "Cancel", the clip is saved (!) as a file on my hard-disc (!). Totally unbelievable. And useless. Just takes up a lot of valubable data-space, for no reason at all. It should only be in the "OK"-mode that the clip is saved. And when I try to capture again, it says that I can´t change name of the clip!! Idiotic! I can´t even overwrite, but have to start all over again! Even when I start capturing a new project, and give the (first) clip a name in the capture box, sometimes the programme alters (cuts down) the name by itself, in the dialouge box, without any reason. And the name is not used already on the disc. Seems not to accept my names! Why? I am really dissapointed with CS6 in this respect. My old Premiere 6.5 works much better, without any of this problems. And there you could also decide if you just wanted to capture video or just audio!

Then hit stop or esc for a dialog box to come up and save to computer. Sometimes the box doesn't come up and you have to capture the video all over again.

cs6 only allows me to capture 2 seconds before it creates a clip what do I do

How is the camera connected to the computer? Via USB or Firewire? I'm trying to capture mini-dv footage from a Sony HandyCam, and when I connect it via USB, Premiere can't find the device. So I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if I have to be purchase a DV to Firewire cable.

You have to use a Fire-Wire-cable

Hi! I'm a beginner and I practically have the same camcorder. I have the Sony Handycam Camcorder. I'm having the same problem in capturing videos in Premiere Cs5. The tutorial never mentioned the mini dv setup.

@@geraldmcclaren Have you find an answer to your question ? I guess you have to use a Thunderbolt/Firewire (if you are on Mac) and a Firewire cable. Let me know if I am wrong, I am a beginner with the same camcorder too.

Hey Thx for the Tutorial I have a problem. When I record the Video it makes me a mp3 file of the sequenz and the program can not read it. What am I doing wrong?

I know it's been 3 years, but I am pretty sure that banding happens when you have "upper fields" instead of "lower fields first" selected in the import settings dialogue.
