Great stuff. We're getting closer and closer to being able to do all the setup for a new Drupal site without even typing anything. We'll even be able to record some stuff via voice and just just play them at the right time when building the site. So cool.

What I'm really excited about is having off-the-shelf, pre-built sites using templates. I can simply press one button and have a Drupal site built with a complete set of functionality.

Great stuff if launched 20 years ago when Blogs were still cool. I don't see any options for adding video. How is this possible in 2025 as a system geared for creators? You have spent more time with it, so perhaps I missed something? Thanks for the great video.

Alas, those of us that use a hosting service can't install docker or ddev. And I can't install ddev on OpenSUSER Leap 15.6

For a CMS that was supposed to make installing and using Drupal easier it has accomplished nothing. Step 1, Download Drupal CMS. Step 2: install 300 components using CMD, PowerShell, Ubuntu, Linux, ....... Step 3: nothing works. DDEV fails entirely.

(Assuming you are using Windows like me.) I FINALLY got this working after hours of troubleshooting. Don't throw your files into the Ubuntu "drive" as a lot of people seem to say you need to do. Instead mount your windows drive and run it there from WSL. Easiest way to do this was use a regular Windows command prompt and navigate to your Drupal files on windows, then type WSL in the command prompt in that directory. It will open Ubuntu directly to that location. From there I was finally able to successfully run the .sh file. Hopefully we can see easier installation methods in the future such as installation methods within Drupal or maybe support from auto installers. I think we just need to wait on the software to gain a bit more adoption first.

Are you referring to DDEV or Drupal CMS?
@auston1243 күн бұрын
@WebWash DrupalCMS. Though have been having difficulties getting it running on Windows with WSL as I'm new to that system. Almost 100% it's just related to user error on my part but I just got DrupalCMS running as I am writing this so I'm excited to try it out.

@@WebWash both. It failed at running the command .sh which required additional web searching that led to DDEV which in itself was uninstallable. Imagine it as: you want to install windows and need to execute a dos command that then requires installing Linux prior to windows. It's like Drupal Devs want to keep it complicated on purpose.

Great, you should record a video or write a blog post on how to set it up.

As a user of Wordpress / Bricks / ACSS / Frames / ACF Pro, I've been monitoring the ongoing temper tantrums of Matt Mullenweg with concern. Hence my taking an interest in Drupal as an alternative, as it's been mentioned on a few groups by people of the same mindset. Got to say I'm massively disappointed, as compared to my current setup Drupal appears to have such a complicated installation process, and looks so basic compared to my current stack. I'm focussing on dynamically built sites which allow the end user to add/change content themselves without breaking the site structure/styling, is this at all possible at this stage of development? And how well does Drupal handle responsiveness 'out of the box'? ACSS takes care of most of that, it just needs a few tweaks.

Let me do my best to answer your questions. > Got to say I'm massively disappointed, as compared to my current setup Drupal appears to have such a complicated installation process, and looks so basic compared to my current stack. What were your expectations, and what is your current Drupal technology stack? > I'm focussing on dynamically built sites which allow the end user to add/change content themselves without breaking the site structure/styling, is this at all possible at this stage of development? Yes, this is all possible. I cannot provide more detail without knowing exactly what you are looking for. > And how well does Drupal handle responsiveness 'out of the box'? ACSS takes care of most of that, it just needs a few tweaks. Responsiveness is handled by the front-end theme, just as in WordPress and your current Drupal stack. At its core, Drupal CMS is simply a pre-configured version of Drupal core.

As someone who initially started out as a Drupal developer and then eventually supported both Drupal and WordPress, I think ultimately the support capacity and capabilities of the end user (whether internal or outsourced) will determine the CMS no matter how close the features come in parity. This is mostly due to Drupal's decision to adopt an OOP framework like Symfony to build on top of while most of WordPress is still procedural code. Not necessarily all of it, but the standards for developers are looser with WordPress vs Drupal. Ask any Drupal trained developer how to build a list of content, 99% of them will give you the same answer. On the WordPress side, it will depend on their favorite page builder (or not). There's definitely an imaginary threshold of developer experience, management costs, and website complexity that pushes a website to WordPress or Drupal. I think the WordPress community outside of Matt is resilient and will move on, there are many organizations I've worked with who have bent and broken WordPress to their will, so everyone will find a way. To answer your question directly - I don't believe you'll ever get a visual experience out of the box with Drupal that will meet your needs. The baked in themes will be mobile ready, the page building experience is dynamic, but unless you really like blue or a food magazine theme, you'll always need to do some theming work. This is where WordPress really lowers the bar with things like block based themes and Gutenberg out of the box.

Try running ddev config first to tell it that it's a drupal site. Then it should work.
