I need to learn to take these kinda photos with out flash. I use flash in all my photos and have so little edit. What does the editing look like on these photos ? What camera do you use? What white balance ? Btw you are doing a very good job. I just subscribed you.

Hi Thankyou Mike! I don’t usually use flash when I’m outdoors. I just find good even light and then expose for the ambient light and press the shutter. The trick is finding good even light and then it’s easy.

Soft box gives you catchlights in the eyes you can't get that without lights. Lights will give more pop to the pictures vs in LR to up the exposrure and shadows. Of course you need more equipment and an assistant using off camera lighting but will make the photo's pop more and will make you stand out more vs other photographers. Also if it is sunny or a great blue sky you can get the correct exposure for the sky and subject without lights...which is they lighting is so important.

Nicole, how do you expose for the light airy look you want? Do you ever have out of focus images from camera movement or are you super strong and steady?😊 I just did my first engagement shoot and the images shot without OCF left something to be desired.

HI @tmhart43. I try to find light backgrounds or shoot backlit to get the light and airy look. I took me a lot of practise to get sharp images. Keep practising and analyze your camera settings afterwards. I like to keep my shutter speed at least 1/160 second or higher to prevent camera shake.

Hi There! good question. I usually start further away from couples and gradually move in to take tighter shots so that I can get a variety of images. I find it's usually better to start out further away until the couple feels more comfortable with getting photos taken. The distance also depends on the lens I'm using. For example, to take a full body shot with the 85mm, i need to stand far away.

Also how long is a shoot like this?

Hi @tmhart43. Good question! This was a special situation where they just did the photos and the wedding day is on a different day. I took an hour for Bride and Groom photos, a half hour for wedding party and a half hour for family photos. On a normal wedding day, I would ask for 1.5 hours to cover these parts of the day.
