what is amazing to me is that these women, like Maxima, Queen Silvia of Sweden, Mary of Denmark etc learning to speak the language of their adopted homeland. I wonder if any of them spoke the language before they were married???

They look like a very sweet couple--hopefully they are. I like her dress. Tlhe lace-edged veil and the tiara add the bling--more on the dress might have detracted. It's refreshing to see a gown that leaves something to the imagination. the funnel collar, the empire waist and 3/4 length sleeves look very couture. Trust me; I love glitter and crystals, but the line of the dress, the gorgeous bride and the TIARA are highlighted here! However, I do not care for the bridesmaid's dresses.

It is not so wrong - slowly spoken we can understand each other quite a bit. Especially the german dialect "plattdeutsch" that is spoken in northern germany is easier to understand for both sides. But to my shame - I am german - I have to admit that soooooo many dutch people speak german and only few germans speak dutch. It is a wonderful accent when dutch people speak german though ;-)

@helsinkisuomi In a way you can ! Its a germanic language and the way we build the structure and the building of a sectence is almost the same. However, Dutch is of course a different language then German. A lot of words are the same but maybe more are different. I am not sure if you can compare it with the Scandanavian languages, like Norwegian,Danish and Swedish, but i think thats pretty close ! :-)

You may say whatever you like. But German is incomparable to Dutch. There are Words that sound similar, since both languages are related, but in the end they remain two different languages. If you come from Northern or Western Germany like I do you and speak one of the many dialects known as "ripuarisch" or simply "platt" you can understand more of Dutch than an average german speaker.

Terrible dress! Too modest! Like a sweater made of silk. I know simplicity and elegance is in the main focus but this covers everything without any decoration. The top of the dress would be perfect for an afternoon dress but for a wedding! There is something wrong with royal dresses, they cannot bring elegance and beauty together. I also hated Princess Diana's dress! If she could have chosen freely she would have picked a better one. Not that marshmallow joke!
