With number 5, you're describing a very simple version of "phrase matching". A lot of genres, including my primary one drum and bass, won't always have perfectly synced intro/outros, but if you know the phrases and how many bars they are, you can do that alignment yourself. Setting up cue points around the phrase alignment can be an extremely helpful tool.

Yea. I hate when you get the nice comfy 8 bar then the next track is a 6 instead and you got to compensate on the fly. Stil haven't mastered that yet but getting better on those transitions. Used to rely strictly on the intros and outros but can usually mix earlier or later depending on those phrases to avoid the long outros to intros.

Another thing about the crossfader is that it’s used for scratching! From cutting from primary track playing to the scratch sample or if you’re beat juggling, it’s more efficient to use the crossfader for that!

Yep. Just like I'm surprised the Cue-button on his equipment apparently handles what is so commonly called 'PFL' (Pre-Fade Listening) on almost every dedicated mixing-table (for all reading this: that means NO controller, no USB-functionality, just a digital or analog mixer). Confusing to me, but I know shit about controllers but more about analog mixers.

Hi Phil, I lost interest in DJ'ing around 2000 when it was all going formula, but I am starting to get interested in having another go thanks to your videos! The equipment and what is possible now blows my mind. It seems like only yesterday I was having to keep tapping play/pause to match and how posh it felt to have a CD player that had a countdown timer.. Christmas is coming and I am thinking of treating myself to a controller. The preferred list in order is the Numark platinum, DDJ400 (if they are available) and the Hercules offering you recently reviewed. Is there any chance you could do a comparison of those with more of a view on connectivity options and major differences in software? Does either software allow use of streaming services now? Does serato allow import/export of cue points? options for recording your practice sessions etc.. Thanks again for your vids, from an old dog trying to learn new tricks..

i noticed you have a lot of misinformation about the crossfader in your videos. while i DO agree that DJ's use the main faders to have better control over the volume on the corresponding track, the crossfader never puts your volume at 50%/50% by having it in the middle. otherwise dj's would never leave the crossfader in the middle, they would probably straight up disable it or have the big brands make controllers without crossfaders. having the crossfader in the middle plays both decks at 100% volume each, nudging it left or right reduces the volume from the opposite track (and the opposite track is the only side that has its volume effected). and during your example, you had the crossfader in the middle, and guess what... the tracks did not play at 50% volume each. why? because it doesn't work that way, despite the claim you were making. with that said, yes the pros do use the main faders as opposed to the crossfader because you want individual control over the volume of each side. as opposed to the crossfader cutting volume from only one side at a time. DJ's who use it for scratching use it to cut volume from one side after all. because that's its only functionality, to cut volume from a single track (usually the side they are scratching from is being cut because it sounds bad if you have the crossfader in the middle, with both sides playing at full volume while doing this).

Didn't really get into the EQ and why turntablists uses the crossfader to have a manual gate on their scratching. Also No. The intro's and outro's aren't the same length nor do they always consist of a drum loop. Producers tend to make it easier for DJ's by having it be a drum loop in most cases but this can be a phrase of 8 or 16 bars, or even 2 phrases of 16 bars for those long techno tracks.
