question for you guys. if you are trying to capture the grooms reaction, how can you do that if you have a 2 cam set up and your wide is focused on the altar while your 70-200 is focused on the bride and bridesmaids coming down the aisle? Just to make sure I understand cam 1 is the stationary one right? where I would put my cropped cam with the 28-75 since it will be cropped or the 17-28. I'll be using my a7III as the mobile shot.

To be honest this made me feel better about some of my positioning. There is always that balance between getting the shot, and getting in the way. So some great tips and some relieving confirmations. Cheers

Glad to hear Ben. Every rule is meant to be broken and we’re not reinventing the wheel here. Ceremony coverage is all about doing the boring stuff really well. Part three coming out shortly.

24-70 lens. First shot is 24mm, second is zoomed into 70mm. Both were shot on a full frame camera.

Awesome video. There weren't any videos like this when I first started shooting solo many years ago. I had to figure it out with very little guidance. It's definitely not the easiest thing to do, but possible when the couples understand you are shooting solo. I had to learn how to manage every couples expectations so they understood that there would not be multiple cameras with extreme closeup shots with multiple angles in different positions with me shooting alone. Most couples understood, but some did not. Thumbs up to those who still do it.

Thanks! Yah shooting solo can be a tough one, always helps to at least have an assistant if not a second shooter!

Seriously good info here! I was just wondering about the wide shot from the back. Wouldn't the people standing as the bride walks down the aisle block the camera from seeing her?
@WeddingFilmSchool
@WeddingFilmSchool 3 жыл бұрын
Often times, yes. That’s why we often put that cam as high as possible. The other thing to consider is that not every angle needs to capture every moment equally well. We will often shoot directly down the aisle or maybe a gimbal profile shot or some other way of capturing the bride as she walks down.

@2:16 you mention about having another reaction shot of the groom as the bride walks down the isle, but when this happens dont people tend to stand up at this point meaning that that view is blocked?
@WeddingFilmSchool
@WeddingFilmSchool Жыл бұрын
You should definitely accommodate for this and I would definitely say that this set up or any set up is not perfect for every single wedding so be sure to make adjustments based on the actual flow of the day and the needs of the shoot. One tip we will always give people is to make your group shots tripod as tall as it possibly could be in trying to find an angle work someone might not stand in front of you.

How much autofocus do you use on the monopod?
@WeddingFilmSchool

When the bride walks down the aisle I’ll use auto focus but honestly, sometimes I still do. Depends of situation and how many heads pop up in the foreground

I understand the 180 degree rule but in your two camera shoot haven’t you missed the point if you don’t have the brides face?
@WeddingFilmSchool
@WeddingFilmSchool 2 жыл бұрын
You should be able to capture the brides face at all times. I tend to favor filming the bride over filming the groom although both are clearly important. If I only have two cameras then I like to move to a profile of the bride and groom looking at each other pretty early in the ceremony.

Based on the HD video quality I wondered if this was shot in 2015, totally unaware of how much prosumer camera has progressed over the last few years.
