Great choice in glass, very similar to my own kit. I used to shoot weddings a lot and one thing I noticed was to alway keep your rain cover in your kit for the bride or groom to sit on if necessary.

what are you shooting with now? a great little system to get into (In my opinion of course) are the panasonic GH4 cams.. great quality, 4k and affordable, lenses won't break the bank compared to full frame canon lenses, and the optics are awesome too.. and you can even get some adapters to use other brands of lenses as well.

Do you own any ND filters? Do you feel that these would be, or are, useful, for you, on a wedding day? Or do you just step down your aperture for the sake of DOF in order to set the correct exposure? I say they are a need, but my friend insists on never using them.

i always have an H1 for prep just in case theres audio from a letter or card that needs to be captured and i just use my videomic as the backup for that since the H1 with a lav is always much more clear. i think my 100mm macro is my fav lens, its so good crisp for close up prep shots, and with the small size and IS its the best walk around lens for receptions and ceremonies on a monopod. i like these videos though, you should do one for first shooter gear, id love to see more on your audio and lighting!

Hi! You use the Canon 6D rather than the 5D MK III. I'm looking to upgrade from a T3i. Are there anything that are major drawbacks with the 6D (Moire, headphone jack etc)? Is it worth paying over £1000 for the 5D MK III Thanks
@WeddingFilmSchool9 жыл бұрын
***** Well, congrats on upgrading your camera arsenal! It's always fun to get new toys to play with but always make sure to remember that it's not the camera that will improve your work the most. Improve every aspect when possible! With that said, I love the 6D. I would always use the 5Dmkiii when given a choice between the two but the 6D really is the most bang for the buck. You can get them super cheap right now so jump! If you're really unsure between the two consider renting both and trying them out before making the purchase. Hope this helps! Thanks!

Hey, Kraig. I've noticed you don't use mirrorless cameras on your weddings. Is there a reason for that? Whats your opinion on shooting video with mirrorless cameras? Thanks. Love your videos, very informative
@WeddingFilmSchool9 жыл бұрын
+Nick Dementyev Yeah, I have tried everything under the sun but choose to stick with Canon DSLRs. They're just so quick and easy and people who know how to properly use them can still get great image quality. I'll move on eventually but for now I'm chill. I do appreciate the size of mirrorless cameras, it would be nice to shed some size and weight on camera rigs... especially for weddings, which honestly don't require that crazy of equipment kits. Thanks Nick! What do you shoot with?

+Wedding Film School thanks for the reply. I've actually just got Sony hxr mc2500 and I'd like to see the difference between a camera and video camera and figure out if that's a better option for me. Kraig, do you know if the Canon 24-105 would go good with my Canon 60D? I need some help here.
@MrZombs1239 жыл бұрын
that lens is decent. but there are definitely better choices out there.. I'm betting he got it as a kit with his 6D. Not that its a bad lens by any means.. but its notorious for having bad vignetting and not being as sharp as it should be.. that being said, I've used one before (which belonged to my video guy) and my results were sharp.. however on its own its a bit pricey IMO, and you can get cheaper primes, or just save a bit more for a 24-70 f2.8.

Any particular reason why you video the wedding with a DSLR instead of a video camera? Great video!
@WeddingFilmSchool9 жыл бұрын
Mary Thomas Typically DSLRs allow for more control over the image as compared to camcorders. The large sensor in DSLRs also allows for more creative control over the final image pertaining to depth of field and dynamic range. They are usually smaller and easier to rig for the situation, meaning that I can use glide cams, sliders, monopods, tripods with ease. What are you using? Great question, thanks Mary!

hey man, on your gear page of your site i cant find the 24-105. Did you replace it? Also i see teh 18-135mm. I have this lense. I always thought and found (maybe because of my 1100d) that this lenses was a really low budget lense. What do you think about this lense (i am a student with small budget)
@WeddingFilmSchool9 жыл бұрын
Anand .Sie Hello Anand, thank you for taking the time to email. It’s always nice to hear that we’re helping in some way and it’s my pleasure to answer any questions you might have. So yes, I agree that the 24-105mm is great for people starting out because it eliminates the need to switch lenses while shooting, which slows you down. Being focused on what is happening in front of you is more important than switched around with gear. Most lenses can give really high quality images when in good light. What makes a lens better is its ability to be good in diverse shooting situations, meaning low light and such. The 18-135mm can be good but falls a part at the reception in low light. The 24-105 is better but the price difference between it and the kit lens doesn’t make up for the small difference in quality. Hope this helps man. Send any other questions or tweet me @wedfilmschool on twitter. Thanks!

Could I use a 24-105 on a glidecam or would that be dumb????
@willwatkins70949 жыл бұрын
Hey, Madison. I noticed he didn't answer your question, but I've used a 24-105 on a glidecam before. Nothing wrong with it. I would just keep it all the way wide at 24 and make sure the IS is on. It's a heavier lens, so depending on what you use as a camera you made need to use most of the weights that come with it. A glidecam HD 2000 would be good enough. You don't need the 4000 unless you have a heavier camera like canon's C line cameras, or a RED, etc. I would just do a ton of research on balancing them and techniques before doing that, but seeing as it's almost April I'm sure you already shot your wedding. Curious as to how it went.

Hi Kraig, I am from India and as you might guess, the weddings here are very different than in the US. I didn't understand what you mean by 1st Shooting, 2nd Shooting etc. Can you please help me understand?
@Rememberthattime8 жыл бұрын
So the main videographer who gets the wedding job is the 1st shooter. But maybe he decides he needs another person to help him out and get some shots that he can't get because he can't be in 2 places at once. So that person he takes along with him is called the 2nd shooter!

It is basically an assistant, my dad is wedding photographer and often has a 2nd and 3rd shooter. They don't just stand around and help him, they usually shoot other things that might not be as crucial but still are necessary i.e. the 1st shooter would photograph the Bride, her getting ready, etc. where as the 2nd shooter might go off and shoot the groom. So at the end of the day they are there to help which would be an assistant....
