Fabulous closedown in the traditional style, love the slow fades & slide use, Robin Whitting was a master of this until his retirement in 1985 when after the musical nightcap the 2 sign moved on over the slide and he said goodnight and goodbye before it moved off.

Funnily enough, I got myself the record they used. This was a K-Tel record, just called "Themes." It was a 1981 compilation of film music for the time. And I remember coming accross another closedown, where BBC 2 used a mix of "Ballade Pour Adeline" from that same album.

And this piece of music would be used in *MANY* popular hit songs to the present day - "All Together Now" by The Farm, "Basket Case" by Green Day, amongst others. Fun fact in relation to the piece of music.
