Question please anyone! For SSI, If I’ve been self-employed for years prior to my disability, does SSA need income verification for that or do they just wanna be sure I’m not involved in SGA post disability? Great video thanks for all the info!

You are welcome! They may need to see income verification for the years prior to becoming disabled.

Regarding past relevant work in the last 15 years… what if the last time I worked was 16 years ago, then what happens?

If you haven't performed work in the last fifteen years, then you would not have any past relevant work. Unless you're applying for SSDI for a remote period (a time period in the past) then it would be 15 years prior to that.

The link to the SSI application PDF is added. For the link to find an office (I think that's the second link you're asking about), it's often easier to just search that online!

@@BeaconDisabilityPLLC Thank you for answering. No, I'm sorry I wasn't clear on that. I was talking about the url to apply online at their site. Can you post that? Also, are you sure that we can apply online only because everything I'm learning so far is that the online form is just a pre-application and then the SSA informs you of when your actually application interview will take place?

The online application for SSI only is essentially a pre-application. This is (at least in part) because SSI has the financial restraints and the way SSA gathers that information is through an interview. Will add the current link to the SSI online application. It does change from time to time, so it may not permanently be at this location.

Can you get SSI if you already get social security?

It depends on how much Social Security you are receiving, but likely not. It's best to check directly with Social Security.

I have a question if you don’t mind, am parent of infants who 9 months, I could not get back to work because am taking care of them so in this situation can apply for SSI

If you or the infant is disabled, you may qualify for Social Security disability benefits. There has to be a disabling condition involved to be approved for SSI benefits if you are under full retirement age.

Just being premature is not a disability, but if they have been diagnosed as failure to thrive and/or have other conditions, it may. You can look at the SSA Childhood Listings here to get an idea of what conditions count for children: www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/ChildhoodListings.htm.

I was 62 when I got approved for SSI. I had sufficient work credits and had been a full time company employee for 20 years. Any idea why my lawyer didn’t apply me for SSDI?

It's hard to say without knowing the full picture. You may be receiving SSDI benefits, not SSI benefits. It's often hard to tell the difference between the two unless you're looking inside a case file! One way you may be able to tell if you are receiving SSDI is if your monthly benefit from SSA (not counting any state supplement) is greater than $914/mo.

Interesting - that is odd. I'd reach out to their office or even SSA directly to see if there is more to the story or if it was a misunderstanding!
