Although magical fire does work underwater because there's no rules against it, all creatures submerged in water have resistance to fire damage, so Tronald shouldn't have been able to deal that much damage. Either way, great video lmao.

Was about to say this. Also, to comment on Saxiron's attempted Booming Blade on Tronald and Raarh's swing onto Saxi while he was in the water, those attacks would be made at disadvantage because of neither were using piercing weapons (i.e. spears, tridents) or have a swim speed.

@@Mrryn I noticed that as well, but some people ignore the underwater disadvantage rules, it just felt weird to make a point that fire spells can be used underwater but ignore the fact that the damage should be halved. Also, Saxiron should have been unable to swim to Tronald without dashing as he doesn't have a swim speed so he would have to use up 2 feet of movement for every 1 foot he moved, thus meaning he could only make it half the distance.

The fact that Saxiron cheated with temp hps, Celestia ignored disadvantage on guiding bolt from being in melee with a hostile bear while attacking Rawr, but also Joe ruling that water doesn't give you resistance to fire damage and gaslighting Saxiron saying there was nothing in the rules about it Honestly this is about how my D&D games go too, the final outcome however was not defined by these rules mishaps, it didn't end up mattering

Agreed. Poor Celestia wasn't given the choice of partner but agreed to the match. Saxi (artificers, in general in my opinion) is a support member of the party. A vital role, but he isn't going to best tronald or rahr in a battle. I doubt Celestia and Saxi combined could beat either of their companions and together its not even a contest. Then again I always play spellcasters or spellcaster/martial combatant multiclasses so I'm probably biased.

6:36 That's not how Faerie Fire works, Saxi, it affects the targets in the area if they fail their DEX save and then for the duration they remain affected no matter where they move. Tronald cannot "move out of the area it's affecting".

Faerie Fire isn't an area effect, it targets creatures in an area and then is left on them. Love the show! Edit: Underwater combat does have a section stating fire damage is resisted while fully immersed, but I've had dms claim that in their games they went the same way as in here.

I'm using real world logic, not fantasy. If water extinguishes flame by sucking out the heat, and magic flame isn't affected, then I would think it wouldn't absorb heat to create steam. But the rules in a fantasy world don't have to follow that logic.

Wow, the DM definitely played favorites in that combat. For one thing, the bear would have gotten an AOE against Rawr when he ran over to Celestia, also there is no way that Tronald can use that many different spells in one combat encounter. I could buy it if Tronald or Rawr survived while the other two were defeated, but there is no way they managed a 2/0 without cheating.

The number of rules mistakes are many: No concentration checks were rolled when anyone took damage. When Tronald took a booming blade hit, he should have taken additional damage when he moved on the following turn. The burning hands should have done half damage to Saxyron because he was in the water. Fun to listen to though.

Booming blade was shielded in the end, but all the other ones yeah, I missed them - that's what happens when you're overworking yourself I guess, I'll look into dropping down to 1 ep every 2 weeks or something when it comes to battles in the future, too much to do with the time I have in just a week :/

Been curious why Raarh reactivates his rage so often? According to the basic 5e rules rage lasts 1 minute and a combat round is only 6 seconds, so a single activation of his rage should last 10 rounds. But it seems when in combat he reactivates it every two rounds or so.
