The WORST covers in Project Sekai!

I still totally adore Project Sekai, but there are definitely some covers that have me tilting my head a little in confusion. That's why, today, let's take a look at some pretty bad covers in the game!

They REALLY did most of the the Vocaloids dirty in PJSK, a lot of their vocals are very flat, nasally and just garbage to listen to. Miku's nasally, Meiko's flat, Rin's UNBAREABLE (tho I'm not a fan of her voice to begin with), Luka's cute but also very nasally, and Kaito can be good but the moment he sings in a higher range, it goes downhill. Len is the only one who consistently sounds good, even great in some songs like Ego Rock, Ame to Petra, Bug and Kitty (tho the Ghost Rule cover with Rin and Ochame Kinou kind of broke that consistent streak)

Imo it sounds like youre biased towards len (i dont blame you with vocals. Luka and len are my fav playable vocaloid vocals) 😭😭 i prefer the ogs of almost all the songs but i dont think theyre flat

hi, #1 sekai lost one’s weeping cover lover here (that’s a joke), i’m here to. say stuff you contradict yourself when you say that it would be a better nightcord cover. you said that it would fit mizuki perfectly because they don’t go to school due to a fear of bullying and such, but then say it doesn’t fit l/n because they’ve never had issues with school. one, yes they have, read the story, and two, yes they have, read the story? honami was heavily bullied for being a “boot licker” and just trying to be nice to everyone which led to her only sticking to one group of friends, shiho was bullied for her personality of being stand off-ish and cold which is why she distanced herself from the rest of the girls so they don’t get bullied too which results in ichika being lonely and generally sad during most of her school years (+ saki is obviously in the hospital) so when the song is about preassure from SCHOOLWORK then say l/n have “never had any issues with school” but then say it would fit mizuki because of the fear of being bullied? you’re contradicting yourself in several ways. also, i disagree that it would fit mafuyu because it’s more pressure from her mother than the school. i don’t remember which one but in an area conversation with mizuki she says that she’s got high scores in ALL her subjects because of the immense amount of studying she’s done, that’s more pressure from her mother than anything. they gave it to l/n because their entire theming is school + they are a band that would play that sort of song. it would NOT fit being a nightcord cover because their voices just aren’t powerful in the same way leo/need’s are. plus it just really wouldn’t make sense with n25’s general style.

Absolutely agree. I despise it when people say “well if it’s sad then it should be a n25 cover.” which is absolutely not true. Yes n25 is ment to be a kind of sad group but that doesn’t mean all the sad songs should go to the. That’s kinda like saying chururira chururira daddadda or goodbye deceleration shouldn’t be a wxs cover just because it’s upsetting or is about negative emotions. Also what pisses me off more is that she said Becoming Potatoes shouldn’t have been covered by Wxs WHEN ITS A RUI FOCUS SONG

REAAAL, I hate how people think niigo is the only unit/the one who has more struggles so they have to get every single dark/sad song when THAT'S NOT TRUE. Like you said, Lost One's Weeping DOES FIT L/N and I hate how people don't read their stories, L/N literally fits it so much even their band it's school themed.

I don’t play project Sekai but the one cover from this game that I can’t stand is Miku’s solo version of Usseewa. I heard that that version used in the game was a demo syudou made for Ado (I’m not sure if this is true or not) but it still sounds AWFUL. Miku’s tuning sounds too high, screechy, and there’s no power or emotion in her vocals whatsoever, which is the exact opposite of what this song needs. It needs that high emotion and power in the vocals or it just sounds off, and I know Miku can pull it off if tuned right. Go listen to RishieP’s cover, she absolutely killed it with Miku and provided what Sekai cannot.

If I were in charge of the Vocaloid covers for Project Sekai, I would absolutely use VFlower for Usseewa because my goodness Miku was a terrible choice! Lol

@@caramell_scara Actually, several Flower songs with her Vocaloid voicebank are in the game! Villain, Bocca della Verità and Lova Ka are some examples, even post her conversion to Cevio. I think as long as you use her Vocaloid voicebank instead, it should be fine. Even then, I've seen Cevio voicebanks in the game like Kafu with Phony.

11:14 he rarely sounds good is because hes meant to be an actor, but was never meant to be a singer. i think his voice actor protrayed it perfectly so it would make sense if his singing sounds " off ". I understand that some ppl may not like this, but i love his voice for this because of how well the va executes it.

I consider the WxS cover of Love Ka? one of the worst. Like, what? WxS covering a Hiiragi Kirai song? That song doesn't fit with them, and the way how MEIKO was tuned, it's horrible in many ways, they mimicked Hiiragi Kirai's way of tuning flower (original singer). N25 fits perfectly that song, saying this because they covered Bocca Della Verita, another Hiiragi Kirai song, and imo, it's a good cover. They should given Love Ka? cover to N25 and tune MEIKO better.

Love Ka is a 50/50 with me because Rui sounds amazing as always and Nene's vocals sound lovely for the song but I always found the group cover to be a head scratcher for me when Tsukasa and Emu don't fit the song at all. MEIKO's tuning was just downright offensive to the ears! Lol The theme of confusion over your feelings definitely fits N25 more!!! I guess because of the electro swing beat, they just shove it to WonderlandxShowtime. Like Becoming Potatoes! Lol

I really like the happy halloween cover (specifically Haruka's alt vocal) but i'm probably a bit biased because I used to listen to that song religiously. But I'm still disappointed in Lost One's Weeping cover, I've heard Shiho sound beautiful in songs. It was one of the earlier covers though. For covers I don't like I'm not a huge fan of the 'Love Ka' cover...it's just out of place. Now Honami's alt vocal for Tale of the Deep Sea Lily, mwah. Beautiful.

What do you think of bandori covers of vocaloid songs? I often hear that pjsekai covers are better because they're closer sounding to the original but I think bandori's ability to make the song fit the group instead of the other way around is way more interesting

I'm surprised Dreamin Chuchu isn't here, Luka NT lost her iconic lower gender factor and clear voice from the original and Minori literally sings some notes off-key and I'm guessing that's the reason why she's the only one without an alt for that song. Also I'm suprised Dramaturgy and Teo aren't here, the mixing is not that great and I personally hate song covers that go an octave lower on the chorus, if you're going that route just lower the key. Now that I mention covers that go an octave lower on the chorus, I can't like Egoist and Shun-ran for that exact reason, they didn't even let the VS sing the upper octave like they do in leo/need covers or just let the boys sing in the same octave as the girls in Egoist, Akito is always singing high af why not let him do it in that one. I think the mixing in Lost Ones Weeping is less forgivable than the vocals themselves, there's little to no reverb while the original's lasts for half an hour, and also the harmonies that aren't shiho singing an octave lower are missing, and to be fair, the song is so high the VAs would have to scream the vocals to sound "powerful and emotional" and that may hurt their voices. Also, I don't think Tsukasa sang Nonsense Bungaku off-key, if you're going with that argument for a Tsukasa alt, I think Buriki no Dance should be there instead, he's literally a little bit flat during the whole song and I'm guessing it's because of the mixing, some people tune duplicate vocals just a tiny bit flat or sharper to give more depth to them and they forgot to undo it for Tsukasa's alt. Also he literally has to scream some choruses because his range is actually pretty low, you can hear him doing the bass at the march part on Glory Steady Go and I don't think I've heard any other male pjsk character going lower than that.

Calling Tsukasa's Buriki no Dance cover good and then calling his Literary Nonsense cover the worst one in the whole game is INSANE. I've never understood the idea that a cover has to sound exactly like the original to be good, because in Tsukasa's case I think his voice works perfectly fine. Is it the chorus that you don't like specifically? Because I don't understand what could possibly be wrong with the rest of it.

I think the main issue is that Tsukasa's voice actor brings a pop-like theatrical singing to Tsukasa's voice and that type of singing clashes hard with specific genres. Not saying he had to sing like Eve, but that adding this pop-y theatrical singing makes the whole song sound off. The main verse in particular is the worse when I can tell his voice actor was struggling to keep the in-character range and style of Tsukasa while keeping the style of the song too. The reason Rui's cover, I think, is much better is because Rui's voice in the game is a lot more flexible because Rui as a character doesn't have this over the top theatrical personality like Tsukasa does so it means his actor has a wider range to handle songs like Literary Nonsense.

Ohhhh, there are some interesting points here: Ghost rule LukaMei: ok correction, there aren't seperate Luka and meiko covers, they have a duet together. I get their NTs aren't the most distincte VBs but they still sound different enough where I don't get when people straight up can't tell the difference...anyway the alt is terrible. So is the kaga alt and so is the sekai ver. Kaito is the only VS to not sing ghost rule and god blessed him for that. Niccori MikuLuka: yeeeee its pretty bad. Idk why this alt even exists tbh. Nothing much to say, itd just another bad NT alt of which there are many. Idk why NT tuning is so much worse than NT tuning used in sekai versions but it sure is. Happy halloween: idk I really like the cover but I get it can sind kinda flat Lost ones: one of the worst sekai versions. The verse is ok and then the chorus hits in which for some reason shiho is the main vocalist even tho she sings in a tone that should be harmonies? Its very terrible. God bless the Len NT alt that just uses the cillia tuning. I should address some things that were said here ig. Niigo doesn't really fit the song either. Mafuyus problem isn't school, its her dogshit parents. She is shown to not mind school at all. Kanade is home schooled not cause of school issues but cause of her own depression with her dad. Ena doesn't really have school problems either, she's just goes at a different time. It does kinda fit mizuki ig. I still think the inst are way too LN to not give it to them since the lyrics don't make up for it being niigo (tokyo teddybear meanwhile should've been MizuMafu and I will die mad HonaSaki are in it). As for the last point, while I don't agree or disagree with the "giving covers based in genre point" since thats very mixed in sekai, potato is a very poot example since thats not a cover, its a commission for ruis 1st event. And commissiom back in the day had the problem of colopale not giving the Ps a good idea of what the event story is about (also it lowkey does kinda fit rui). Nonsense Kasa: I hated him for a long time but honestly his alt is fine. They gave him all his worst lines in the sekai ver and that made me think he sucks but he's just kinda ok outside of literally going off key in the 1st chorus Thanks for coming to my ted talk, I'm very sorry, this was a lot

IDK if this counts but the most recent Tokyo Teddy Bear cover WAS good to me the first listen until you hear how they tuned Rin...why couldnt they let Neru tune her or at least try to mimic the original tuning style. I still like the cover because its a personal Neru song to me so seeing it get some more attention was amazing (that wasnt Project Diva lol) but how tf did they mess up Rin's tuning when everyone else sounds amazing??

11:11 not this exact time stamp but around here nene’s said to be the best singer in wxs ?? not tsukasa. in the current event on the global /en server (canary event) i forgot which episode but tsukasa, emu, and rui were like, we can’t give her much advice on her singing because she’s the best one out of all of us, she’s our vocal teacher. tsukasa is said to the best actor of the group, by nene in that same event, and you could also just guess that as he does a lot of acting classes and gets many of lead roles. sorry that just immediately caught my attention as someone who adores wxs to pieces anyway for meikos ghost rule and miku/luka niccori cover, i literally died while hearing it. all emotions from those songs were literally just taken out of it 😭😭 happy halloween also bothers me, it’s one of the only pjs covers i genuinely can not stand. I ADORE the original is so cute and amazing…. but the sekai cover…? i love mmjs voices but this the worst cover j ever ever heard. for literary nonsense it pains me to say you hate it as it’s one of my favorite covers for tsukasa, but i was introduced to that song through pjsk and not through the original snd i think i just developed a bias font the sekai cover, and idk i just really like how different tsukasa sounds in the song. like i love rui’s cover too, but tsukasa’s i just prefer more. anyway overall nice video !!

I LOVE the original, but the sekai version..? i mean it’s not the worst but something just feels wrong with it? i love an and kohanes voice a lot i love them in songs like pheles and brain girl revolution (okay maybe not an’s solo cover…) but something just didn’t feel right. their voices just didn’t go with len and rins in this song, and i KNOW they can go well with the, (devil’s manner, flyer) but tbf it was an early cover and full cover is better. i used to really dislike the nostalgic cover from mmj, but then i got better music taste and i realized i didn’t like the cover bc i didn’t like the song, but now i love the song and cover is actually rlly nice i love haruki a and shizukus’ voice together. Otomo dissection is iffy for me, like mizuki sounds almost like she’s struggling to sing in it :(
