I’m planning on turning my 12ft Jon boat into a hydrofoil in the spring and was toying with the idea of using 2 weed eaters for propulsion 😂 they would probably perform better with an optimized propeller, but I’ll probably go with my second idea using a 6.5hp predator 212

I used a flat tine little rototiller blade off of a little cheesey two stroke. Bending the tines EQUALLY IN SMALL INCREMENTS until I found the sweet spot. Its effective as a prop for trolling. Oh and my weed eater is a Straight Shaft with an elbow at the end and I just flipped it over and packed it with Marine Grease. I flipped the adjustable handle over and attached it to an oar lock that I attached to the back of the boat.

Try a Long Boat configuration with a gimbal bracket on the transom. Extend a handle over the motor and use a prop with some pitch on it!, trimmer rpm is lower than a trolling motor. Expect no more than 5 mph.

Valiant effort. The weak link is the reduction gearing in the head. If you eliminated that and used a smaller, higher speed propeller you would succeed in the tail dragger mode. Propeller from above with zero reduction 90 degree from an angle grinder gear (zero reduction) for a side thruster (powered paddle). Live hartily in your energetic youth. You will never lose these times and you will never reproduce the energy and effort you are doing after you are 39 (arbitrary non-substantial figure) I am always thankful. Full Stop. I am always thankful that I endeavored to excell in my twenties because, from my sixties, I see I would never push as hard as I did then. Only downside is: Now I hate myself for not forging forward with satisfying force. If I never tried anything, I would probably be happy to have never achieved anything. (unrelated) If it jumps when you kick it, it is not a dead horse.

Need a smaller propeller prop and it will work great... The one's your using are to big for the engine. Think of it like this if you put monster truck tires on a Honda Civic it's not going to make enough power to move them like you want. Right? But the right size tire will.
