Was a budding designer during ALL of this - from paste up to pre-press. I was there, slowly crossing over a divide that would not only change my world but eventually OUR world. It feels like looking back at pictures of myself as a toddler and realizing that at one time everything was once new to me, the basics... walking, talking... things I can't even remember but did. But there was a second growing up... and I remember everything about it... when our 'new world' was young. When ALL of us were learning how to walk and talk and think and design and create and communicate... digitally. Emigre magazines are now packaged up and in boxes in my basement, fonts on 3 1/2 floppy, Syquest disks... along with rubylith, tsquares, Bestine, burnishers. I was there. I am here. What now? Thoroughly enjoying your design history installments - and puppy snoring. :)

Ann, the content is good, no doubt. Useful. But you need to work on narration, both on your delivery, and structure. One can only take so many minutes of "they did this, and he did that, which led to this" Things to try: • Create some questions for the audience before giving them the knowledge. This way it lands somewhere. • Use some background music to change the mood of the subject. • Show the emotional background of the persons you present. • Show the importance of the matter/event you present. Dont just tell "and this affected our world" • Drink some coffee, fluctuate your voice. • Tell us how you feel about what you present, or what your opinion is for the matter. I guess you love these subjects and find them interesting. Dont be reluctant in showing it! Cheers, I watch your next one :)

Thank you so much! Great advice! This was my first year (happy Covid times) making these - designed specifically for one course but it's so nice they are finding a wider audience... Still not as fun as teaching in person and wearing costumes from each era... but working on it!
