This week in Monetizing My Art Channel, I talk about some of the gnarly stuff: pain points of my beautiful target audience, and my own inner struggles as I barrel towards earning buckets of money. 😉

I almost want to apologise for leaving so many comments on your videos! Its not somehting I've done much of before & tbh it feels a little strange! But every video of yours I'm watching is so poignant. I've worked over 20 years in the world of academic & healthcare psychology & only now am I allowing myself to face my love of creating art & say, yep..enough is enough, its time to go for it! I love that you've created Jen, she's lucky to have you, we all are 🌟🙏 Week three & you're smashing it 🙌🙌 No vibes of selling out, just pure heart fuelled gifting.

Yay!!! I am really glad to be a source of encouragement. Your channel is so lovely and legitimately useful for people interested in crochet. 😻 When we were deep in the pandemic I tried to teach the family how to knit to support all of our mental health. It seemed to help. Since then we have each turned to different creative pursuits but memories of those moment when the three of us were all knitting I hold dear. I hope many people learning to crochet find your channel as a great resource. ❤️

I love the addition of music. If I may make a suggestion: lower the music volume a few notches to keep the focus on what you’re saying.
@annelivingstonart3 ай бұрын
Thank you, yes! I agree! The music is too loud--and it's at zero volume! I wonder if, when I use a different audio library and incorporate it ahead of time into my videos before posting, I'll be able to make it even quieter. Thanks so much for watching and for the feedback!

OMG Anne your doing amazing 112 subs now! Yes its so 'ickie' that feeling of tricking people & trying to get my head around that uncomfortable feeling. Its interesting to hear about your issues around money, I grew up hearing about money all the time from my mother and how I 'd never have any. This KZbin is quite an eye opener as a Gen X'er. Great video! 😀

I used to love watching the Golden Girls!!! Good luck with getting monetized Anne. I am your target person but I'm not called Jen! I am 61 and I need to make an income from my art/channel! I'm only just getting used to KZbin after more than 2 years and feel that I have been winging it up until now. I am so pleased that I found you. I agree with you. Being GenX and doing KZbin is challenging to our cultural ethos. But… I think we need to be here.

"Challenging to our cultural ethos" describes this tension perfectly! And yes, all the more reason to bring our own je ne sais quoi to this sphere, and to make sure we have presence in the world's second largest search engine!

You are so welcome! I am realizing more than ever while doing this KZbin work that there are many blocks that I didn't even know are there, and so it's important to look at them and talk through them , see if there is any value to them ( is this really keeping me safe? ) and figure out how to work around them.

Hi Anne. Thank you so much for doing these videos! My friend sent me week 4. It showed up in her feed. I watched that & now I’m going thru them from the beginning. Yes, I’d be interested in downloads of your lists. I have adhd, too, I’m an artist over 50 starting an art biz, and (deep breath) working on being more visible out in the world. :-)

Good going, although I'm not an artist I love your channel about monetization. On my channel which is low in views "shameless at 76". I love adding music but found that it was distracting in a good way from what I was saying. My last video I turned my music down and there was really a big different for me. Keep up the good work, not good but great videos🥰

Thank you so much!! I added music to this video and I think it is a little bit distracting now that I have watched it afterwards...yet still glad it's there! I might need to branch out to a different sound library than the one that KZbin has, so I can find music that has the mood I want but also lasts longer so I don't have to switch songs mid video. And thank you for the encouragement!!!! 🥰

@beautifullifesageg.39513 ай бұрын
@@annelivingstonart isn’t it interesting how becoming a content creator (well maybe being a creator of any sort) brings up the messy stuff? I love writing…amd it gets very emotional for me when I do. I guess it’s because all the truth of WHO we are is found in the parts of us that create. This is true for my partner too. He’s a musician/singer/songwriter and finds himself with TONS of self-doubt despite amazing talent. This is a great topic for further discussion! 🤩

I (as a Gen X artist) watch other art KZbin channels of artists of millennial & Gen Z demographics. I do see a combo of them testing out their art biz videos Vs their art vlogs they share in their channel. One KZbinr I found growing fast was “Kelsey Rodriguez” in the past couple of years. You can learn a lot from other artists of all ages. I think she even pointed out /noticed her biz info videos outdid her vlog videos. I think it is a nice mix in there for those who like to watch artists. I like listening to a good music background while other artists work & it feels like a virtual coworking moment. That’s just me. I don’t always like watching other artists work cause I have my own thing to do. But I don’t mind listening like it’s a podcast. Some KZbin channels have weekly video podcast on their channel too. So you can work & just listen to the audio. It’s still “watch time”. There are interesting ways to have watch time happen. Some are podcasts, themes, part 1 & part 2 instructional videos & coworking space/vlogs & more. I enjoy hearing what you learn each week as it gives value to me as someone who wants to learn more but too chicken to try all the things out. Keep up the good work! 👏💕😊

Welp, you got one more subscription here - as a younger Gen Xer who, after signing up for one major life change just had another thrown my way in the form of layoffs, I love the idea of streaming art just for the accountability/pressure to do something I really love doing at a time when I might otherwise feel guilty about doing something for myself… best of luck with everything!

I’m enjoying watching your videos but now that you’ve added music I’ve had to go to closed captions and no sound because I’m finding it harder to hear and concentrate on what you’re saying with that extra layer of unnecessary noise. Maybe I’m just getting old and grumpy but I really don’t understand why we think it’s necessary to add a soundtrack while speaking- I have enough going on in my head already!
@annelivingstonartАй бұрын
@@penelandque hey thanks for taking the time for giving the feedback! I go back-and-forth with this whole music thing. I think I find a distracting as well. I'm trying to figure out how to stick a little bit of it in there in the outro and somewhere in the intro but maybe not with me talking too much. I love music but I also don't love getting confused or making other people confused.
@penelandqueАй бұрын
@@annelivingstonart that sounds like a good compromise, I don't mind it so much if it's music with no talking. Depends on the music of course, and there is a whole other problem given that we all have our own preferences. Don't you just love a challenge!

I would be careful with these videos. The are great and very helpful for lots of people, particularly Gen X Women debating a KZbin channel. The problem is you are then potentially splitting your audience and that can harm your reach longer term. I'm about as artistic as a brick, I have no desire to do any art, my creativity is more along the lines of computer programming, yet here I am watching your video on getting your KZbin channel monetized. This may seem like a good thing, but it isn't if your goal is to grow an art channel. I subscribe to your channel, KZbin will show your video to me, I ignore it if it's art related, others like me will do the same, then KZbin thinks if you can't even convince your subscribers to watch, the video must not have much interest so won't show it to others. Likewise your art views may have no interest in growing a KZbin channel. It's probably ok if a small proportion of your subscribers are coming from these videos compared to your art videos (which you can see form your analytics) but if not, you're likely to be making your life more difficult in the long run.

Sian, this is an excellent point. Thank you for offering this insight. I did not take the decision lightly to have this multi-dimensional approach right now, for this very reason that you mentioned. I imagine that my playlist of KZbin-growth-posts will be finite compared to the overflowing font of posts to come supporting people with their art journeys. Although if people wish to keep hearing more about how this is working, I will be inclined to share a look under the hood. It feels relevant to show other artists that they can monetize their art channels, too, especially in the current state of the economy, and so I am modeling that. It is a little house of mirrors in a way, to be on youtube talking about being on youtube, but I think it will be worth the relative hit I might take on growth if it means helping those who find me on this channel. We'll see! In the future I may rue the day that I chose this approach ... but for now it seems very relevant to "Jen." ♥️ I want to help her grow her art life path, so here I have an art life path channel, which includes how to KZbin. Learning about KZbin myself here in real time is all the more compelling, at least I think it is. Thanks again, and I am so glad you are here! I hope you find some useful bits in my Sunday evening "Monetizing My Art Channel" posts. 💖

I see a combo of artists sharing art blogs & art biz videos on their channels. It mixes things up & shares their art for those who want to see the real artist in action. Or they stick around for KZbin monetization growth videos. She could grow between the 2. Many have done it on KZbin of all age groups.
