Right? Lol! That’s the beauty of R&B/Hip Hop music interpretation lol. And pretty much black American lingo period. It just goes over everyone else’s heads 😂. Context is key! I have plenty of non black friends that also interpreted the song just as they did here and learned the real meaning much later. They initially thought it was great song, but thought the idea of having to say her name all the time was stupid😂. I heard this song as a preteen that never had a girlfriend and instantly knew what she meant by the lyrics and that she was suspicious of her guy cheating and she’s confronting him on the phone, not in person. This is made clear in the first verse when she says “any other day I would call…, but today ain’t the same.” She continues questioning him on the phone even into the second verse. Maybe if they had her with a telephone in her hand in the video everyone would catch on easier 😂

For context: Beyonce, Kelly, Latoya, and LaTavia were the original members since the girls were children (all of whom can be heard on this track). After issues with management, Beyonce's father, Latoya and LaTavia were no longer in the group. For a short while, Beyonce and Kelly even did shows by themselves as Destiny's Child. I'm not sure if there would be any clips out there but there are articles from that time discussing how attendees of the shows were confused why only two of the girls were performing since the news of the group was not out to the main media yet. Since "Say My Name" was just released and getting popular, the video still needed to be filmed and needed new members quickly. That's when they found Michelle who had previously been on tour with R&B singer Monica and the group found the last member Farrah who had been an extra in another DC video "Bills Bills Bills." However, after about 6 months, Farrah was kicked out for frequently being late to or not showing up to rehearsals and performances. The group pondered on finding another member until they realized they had a strong bond and sound as three, hence DC3 was born! I believe the first song with all three of the ladies' vocals was "Independent Women" for the Charlie's Angels soundtrack!

Mostly right. Farrah says she quit (she wasn’t kicked out), and Independent Women apparently features vocals from Farrah as well. So, the first song with the remaining 3 members released was the title track, ‘Survivor’

They had choreography for the whole video but because there was so little time between the 2 new memebers joining and the video shoot, by the time they got on set the choreography just wasnt reading well on camera so the director scrapped it and asked them all to just pose on beat, so thats why the first half of the video is just them striking poses.

Lol. “That woman” is Farrah Franklin. She came in along with Michelle on the first group change before the final making DC a trio with Farrah’s departure. Trio DC debuted with Survivor album and song that you already reacted to (hence the Survivor tv show theme in the music video and resilient song lyrics). So yes, Farrah only lasted 2 music videos including this one. And they didn’t focus on choreography as much this video because they literally fired and replaced the original 2 group members like a week or two before filming the video. And everyone knows Michelle already has 2 left feet and Farrah was just as sus at dancing and Beyoncé, Kelly, and nobody else ain’t got time foe dat! 😂
