Hope youre feeling better! Great advice on "Folow through" with assignments! I think this is where students learn about what they can get away with or not. The same is true for parents too. Child need and want boundries, yes, they will test boundries. If adults do not follow through on what they say, we can expect no less from children.

I have been teaching for 26 years. I enjoy watching your videos because you’re from a different state. I follow a few different teachers to see the difference from Virginia. I have to say the follow through is a difficult task. I teach fifth grade and I have a classroom policy that the students have to check the interactive notebooks, from the teacher notebook, to get caught up. I also leave extra copies under the document camera table. Then I give a 20 minute catch up at the end of the week for digital assignments. It is hard to make sure I include parents on missing assignments. So I generally message on dogo two weeks prior to progress reports.

Hi Katie! Thanks for sharing a week in your life! Valentines for us in kinder land was fun too! I have the same fancy pants from target! I want to get more in different colors but I’m not sure they had any other colors. I agree with you on the follow throughs; definitely a challenge. I’m in the same boat with makeup tests/daily work.

Thank you Katie for sharing. Rest up this weekend. Do you have TPT items? I have not used weekly behavior sheets, could you share one? Are they fast to fill out and are they effective? Does every teacher at your school use them? I appreciated your reflection on follow up/follow through. I also appreciated seeing you clean tables, chairs and sharpening pencils. The reality of all we do each day can be missed in teaching videos.

Absent/ makeup work is the worst for me. Our site has lots of absences so I have just started writing absent on assignments for 2/3 days or more. It’s hard to keep up with so many kids in and out.😅

The teacher I work with has a morning slide up every morning. 1 is always unpack and where to put hw, planner, etc to be checked. Then the next number is the assignment and the student numbers that have not completed it. Then it’s daily review (LA) 1/2 sheet; then are any Brainpop, IXL (achieve score of 100), SEL assignments, etc- through Google Classroom (some are graded and some are for practice). Everything is to be done in order. At the end they can read a book, work on a math website (occasionally), practice multiplication w a partner, etc. During that time we do attendance, help with those assignments, pull kids who need help one-on-one, kids who missed a test; etc. I love this. It gives them about 40-45 mins of independent work before we go into LA and Math. This works. 3rd grade, 8 students with special needs and another that is being tested.
